Hi, originally uploaded by

And then I'll talk about figure skating.
Seriously, though, I've been watching the Olympics and the men's skating... all that new spinning... I remember when they used to do a camel-sit combination, none of these odd new layback variations...
and I know too much about skating.
Figure skating used to be such a huge part of my life - four days a week, I used to skate. I have many memories of skating, both good and bad - making the finals in PEI at my first big competition; crying on the ice for no reason and my coach asking "sweetie, oh Leah, do you have your period?" The day I nearly kicked another skater in the head. The feeling of nearly flying when you get going really fast and easy after a few weeks off the ice.
I do miss that... but I don't really miss the politics and the criticism and the stage mothers. Oh, the stage mothers. My mom was never a stage mom (actually, another memory: Mom flipping out when she saw me with makeup on. I'd been in a SHOW and she was flipping because I had a lot of makeup on. And my mom used to do dance shows! She belly danced and had the most glittery gold eyeshadow I have ever seen!)
