Zhi lies there in the silence, frozen, petrified. He knows his head is pounding. All he can see is darkness. Something is trickling down his face.
His pulse is racing, and then he realises he's alive.
Sitting up in bed, his eyes are still stretched wide in terror as he passes a shaking hand down his face. It had all been a nightmare; a horrifying, vivid, terrifyingly real one. It hadn't happened, his brother wasn't in danger of being killed, he wasn't lying dead in his own blood. A choking sob of relief hangs in the quiet of the morning, and his hand pulls away, wet with the tears running down his cheeks.
The next moment he's on his feet, stumbling towards his door that isn't locked of its own accord, and then he's at his brother's door which isn't marked by a number, and he swings the door open. For a moment he stands there, taking in the sight of Yao's peacefully sleeping form, safe, unhurt, the first light of dawn starting to peek past the curtains to break into the darkness into the room. The door is closed behind him and gingerly, unsteadily he moves to the side of the bed. Zhi drop to his knees, leans forward and holds his sleeping brother in a tight embrace,
He's sobbing freely now and as his breath hitches in his throat, his shoulders tremble, and the tears fall from his eyes to land on his brother, Zhi never wants to let go of that warmth.
