Happy Solstice!

Happy Solstice, everyone!

May your celebration of the return of the light - whatever its form may be - bring you joy.

We still have a lot of shopping to do, partly because I don't get paid until Wednesday. So we'll be spending that evening at Southdale. Because I refuse to try to cope with either Rosedale or the MOA this time of year.

We now have our new Bluray player - E and I decided that it would be a mutual gift this year. It does seem to do a very nice job with both Bluray discs and upscaling regular DVDs. The only frustrating part was trying to get the wireless bridge configured. See, our player has the capability to connect to the Net and stream Netflix and so on - but it needs a bridge or a LAN cable. We went with the bridge due to the configuration of our living room. And we picked one that was supposed to be fairly easy to set up.

Did we get it set up? Eventually. The instructions were not well-written - not even the online ones I eventually found. I had to resort to a forum to find the correct default gateway setting to go with the IP address and subnet mask. And then the supplied LAN cable appeared to have a loose connection at one end, which meant that I had to adjust it every now and then to keep it from losing the connection. So on the whole, it took us two hours and two separate computers to get the bridge configured. Although at least now it seems to be working just fine. It was able to download the firmware update for the player in very little time last night, and we've been able to stream video from both Netflix and Youtube.

I know that writing good instructions is not as easy as it sounds, but these were pretty bad.
