Dear coworker -
We've worked together for a long time, and I like you, I do. But if you don't stop trying to arbitrarily make changes to processes that you don't have the authority to change, I just might have to smack you. What part of "these are the rules, and this is how I need to do this" do you not understand???
Yes, I understand that there used to be more flexibility...and when there was, people got away with murder. Which is part of why things changed. And you not only SUPPORTED those changes, YOU HELPED CREATE THEM. So don't try to undermine the system now...especially because YOU ARE NOT MY BOSS. I will help you, and I will listen to you, and up to a point I will try to accommodate you. But I will NOT stick my neck out for you. Because I'm the one who would be called on the carpet if I did what you want me to do. So don't make me make that choice, because you will NOT like the result. Really.
And yes, I did pass this on to my actual supervisor, because at this point, it's up to her and her boss to deal with you. If you won't listen to me, you WILL listen to them. This is, for now, how things are. Deal with it. If you don't like it, work on changing it. But do it the right way. Do not put me in an impossible position.
I know that you don't like some of the changes that have happened in the last couple of years. Guess what...I don't like all of them either. But you don't get to just "decide" that things are going to go back to the way they were...in that respect, Elvis has not only left the building, he's in the next town. So don't make my life more difficult, because, trust me, I will return the favor.
Ok, I feel better now...
