Well, that went well. I've had my kid lock me out of the house before, but today he locked us both out as I was trying to hang the washing and avoid being nailed with a garden spade (trickier than it sounds, as it happens). I was dressed, but barefoot and my hair was "cooling" (ie: basically in curlers, except without the physical curlers -- humiliating); he was in his PJs with no underwear (where did they go??). We technically have a hidden key, but it's so well hidden that after digging around in the most likely places for an HOUR, I still came up empty handed. I eventually got it, but geez. Then we went shopping for school clothes and I set my keys down to force the kid to try on a shirt and -- shockingly -- for the first time in my life LOST my keys. Except I didn't realize it until hours later at the car. Luckily some saintly person turned them in.
I'm pretty much planning to staple myself to the wall now so I will never have to leave the house again.
I caught a glimpse of the moon though, slinking away toward the valley to the west, looking for all the world like a sliver of lemon custard. That was all right.
