Riza's living quarters

May 30, 2011 02:21

Riza is currently living in the officer’s suite in Patrol Outpost #2, which is between the Outlander building and the ruins. Her rooms are on the ground floor and her door is at the end of the hallway just beyond the recreation area and the grand salon. She also has an exit to the terrace directly from her room. Here’s the basic layout.

And on to specifics!

Entrance Hall

Upon entering her quarters from the indoor hall, the first item to greet you is a coat rack in the small entryway. She really can’t be bothered to walk to the closet to hang her jacket up, so there it is. The entryway is fairly plain and has doors to her office, bathroom, and general living area (clockwise from the left, respectively).

The Office

The office is probably the neatest room in the suite. It features an L-shaped desk which looks like this:

The shelves and drawers all house files and record books and account books all very well organized. There is a type writer on the desk which she procured from the Found Goods store, and there is very probably a few slightly foreboding and somewhat messy stacks of paperwork here and there on her workspace which have yet to be completed and filed. There is also a ficus in the corner, which serves as the room’s only decoration.

The Bathroom

The bathroom is quite large, with a sort of main area that includes the two sinks and the tub and shower area, with the WC off to the side. The tub is also pretty big and has a shower built into it. There are also three windows bayed out around the tub itself, which are stained glass. They look like this:

They are set high enough on the wall (and are also opaque enough) so as not to reveal anything. There is also a shower curtain which can be pulled across the recessed tub area.

There is a ficus in the corner.

The Closet

It’s not that interesting and most guests are unlikely to see this room (unless they go snooping while in the bathroom, haha). There is a dresser and a couple of hangers that contain the entirety of her small wardrobe. There is also a locked gun cabinet that, at the moment, only houses the one rifle that the Colonel gave her.

The Living Area

The largest and main room of the suite. It’s an open floor plan, but it is loosely divided into cooking, sitting and sleeping areas.

Straight ahead from the door is the table, which is a plain round wooden table with four chairs, the same one she had when she was living in Patrol Headquarters.

It looks slightly more beaten up now than it did before the headquarters was destroyed, but it isn’t too much worse for wear. Some of the chairs can usually be found in other areas of the room if, for example, she had to reach something too high for her normal height and she never bothered to move it back to the table. Which is probable. There is usually a small array of clutter on the table, like an empty water glass or teacup, her sewing kit and a partially mended garment, or a gun and or some ammunition she was sorting or tending.

To the right near the corner is her bed.

The mattress is quite large since the two doubles she had in her old apartment got destroyed. The frame is simple and made of dark wood. There is a little table on either side which matches the bedframe decently well. The bedspread, sheets and pillowcases are light blue. It is often unmade or only partially made.

Not far from Riza’s bed is Hayate’s, which is basically a large pillow made of sturdy materials. His red fetch ball (which Utena got for him), chewbones, and a couple of squeaky toys can usually be found in this general area (because Hayate is a little neater about putting away his things than his mistress). Next to that is another ficus (could there be a theme in her vegetative decoration?).

To the left is a little cooking area. The little gas range Riza had in her old apartment is here in the new one, with four burners and the little oven. Next to it is a little stretch of counter space with an ice box beneath it and cabinets above that hold a little bit of food (she never has much at home). On the wall behind the stove hangs a small collection of pots and pans. Her kettle is always on the stove.

Beyond the cooking area is the “sitting area.” It features a couch and a chair, both of which light blue and quite comfortable. They are both upholstered like this:

More often than not, there will be a book left on the couch, possibly left open, or a blanket or sweater hung over the back or the arm.

In the corners of the room are two bookcases, decently stocked with books Riza has read, is reading and (the grand majority) wants to read. Among them are mystery novels (Sherlock Holmes and Agatha Christie among some others from other worlds), reference books, and odds and ends of fiction and nonfiction that interested her. After her guns and food for her and Hayate, books are what she spends most of her money on.

Between the bookcases is the fireplace, in front of which sit the couch and chair. The mantle is white and a little bit grand for Riza’s taste.

She is likely to have a fire lit any time it’s cold out because she gets cold easily, and the colder it is outside the more likely she is to be found on the couch, wrapped in a blanket and staying close to the fire. In winter, some of her paperwork may even be found here because her office is chillier than she’d like.

Aside from the ficus on the other side of the room, the only real decoration in the room can be found on the mantle in the form of a butterfly in a jar. If she has flowers (which is extremely rare) her vase is also likely to be found here. And centered above the mantle, hung on a little nail, is the red paper flower crown Dawn gave her during the tournament.
