It has come to this, that one or two review posts are all I can come up with on a weekly basis. There's just not enough time. Lame sauce. But stay with me, I'll have more to say soon, both in terms of reviews and (for my friends) in terms of actual commentary and updation.

(Yes, updation is a word. I just made it up. Bite me.)

It's Friday, February ( Read more... )

I can't say much on Forgetting Sarah Marshall. I saw a good chunk of that movie and just didn't care for it. I don't know, maybe somewhere down the road I'll give it another shot, but it's unlikely.

But 40-Year-Old Virgin is right up my alley! Strangely enough, I avoided that one for years and had a strong dislike for Steve Carell because I thought he shot to fame for being in some stupid sex comedy with cheesy jokes and dull humor. But once I did a complete 360 and became a fan of his through The Office and his other films, I felt I owed it to myself to watch 40YOV and I immediately wished I could go back in time and slap myself for not giving Steve and this movie a fair chance from the start.

What I love about the film is that underneath all the sex jokes and whatnot (which I actually did find laugh out loud hilarious for the most part, even after multiple viewings), there is an actual heart to the story. I liked the fact that Steve's character was portrayed as a normal guy who just missed out on an opportunity in his life. It wasn't like he was some sex crazed freak. Also, I liked the fact that his co-workers tried to help him get laid. That sentence sounds weird, I know, but you never got the sense that they were going out of their way to embarrass him or make him feel uncomfortable about his, ahem, problem. Now granted, their methods were a bit crazy, but it's the thought that counts, right? :-P

I loved Steve and Catherine's natural chemisty. She really brought something to the movie and her involvement never seemed out of place or forced. She brought a level of warmth and charm that evened out the raunchy factor.

I loved the chemistry between all of the cast, really. Every actor and actress brings their own brand of humor and when you realize that most of the dialogue contains a lot of improvisation, you really come to see just how funny actors can be without being held to a script.

So....yeah, in so many words, I love that movie. :-)
