[And true to his word, there'll be a fiery blue phoenix drifting around the general Luceti area, keeping an eye out for wherever those from the Draft

[Ace's voice is weary and tired. He tries to sound a bit cheerful, but you can tell it's strained.]

Oi, Marco. Mind coming to pick me up? Turns out I'm a lot more tired than I thought. I'm by the river.

[He lets out a tired sigh. Bro, come get him. ;;]

[Already on his way~ Just look out for a giant blue bird.]

I feel honored. [Still trying to be humorous. And it's still failing. When he sees the large, sparkly blue bird approaching, he fires a shot into the sky. Dude. Halp. Waaaaves.]

As you should. You were the only one I started off looking for, eh. [He just realized since he was already out there.... That, and he sees your sorry attempt at cheer Ace, and returns it in deadpan anyway. With the hopes that it'll slowly succeed. They are weird.]

[At the lick of fire though, Marco spirals down until he phoenix tackles Ace and sits on him gently in a giant phoenix hug.]

Heh, thanks. [He sits against a tree and waits. Then next thing he knows, he;s on the ground, a phoenix on top of him.]

How hurt are you? I really should learn more first aid.

Was it bad? [Gets off, but still in phoenix form when he starts fussing over him like a mother hen.]

Hey hey, I'm fine. I'm not hurt too bad, just kinda tired. [He does have a few cuts and bruises here and there, but nothing too big. When Marco asks how it was, he goes quiet.]

I didn't like it. At all.

[Another phoenix hug.]

[Now THAT gives him a genuine smile.] That sounds great right now.

[Shakes out of the fiery blue feathers and gestures.]

[He stands up, holding onto the side of the tree, and sort of gently....flops on him. Hey, he's tired, give him a break.]

'M ready.

[Grins back over his shoulder and gets enough room to take off before flying up over the river so he can safely avoid the branches and then over to the city.]

Damn. I'm sorry they didn't let me go with you, eh? [Weeeee jet noises.]

[Action]

[That makes him jerk up (but without almost falling off).]

Hell no. I'm glad they didn't make you go. Don't be sorry, okay?

[That kind of stabs into his heart, though it doesn't show. He should have said nothing, but did Ace really still think that his crew would ever be happy leaving a fight all to Ace? His fight was theirs.]

[So Marco just sighs quietly and lightly ruffles a few feathers. What can he say? Nakama stick together?]

No regrets, but I still would have liked to watch your back. Waiting and not knowing the result is unpleasant. [And that speaks volumes despite the quiet even tone.] At least I get to have you for the fun things though, eh?

[He pauses to think a moment before it hits him with what that meant.]

O-Oi, I didn't mean to say I didn't want you there. It's just.....it's shit out there. I didn't want you to have to go through it, too.

[He lays down on his brother, giving him a half hug.] You can watch my back for me around here, okay? The fun times are better with you around. [He sighs.] I just don't want you to have to fight in that shitty war, too.

[Snorts quietly. Ace has no idea, but Marco's not about to tell him either, he just leans back into the hug and keeps on flying.]

Of course. Though, you should remember, I've fought plenty of other wars. Before you were even born. [SPARKLES to distract Ace. Marco has the best plans.]
