another chicago celebrity run-in.
So, as some of you guys may know, I play most sundays around the chicago downtown area, makin' my monies, and building a fanbase, trying to make this thing happen. This past sunday, I had a show at the Rockit.
I was feeling under the weather all week, so I was dreading this show. I went forward and played anyways, because that's just what we do. I got there, the usual setup, get my stuff together, flip open the guitar case, throw a couple of bucks in, just to let people know I am accepting tips. (Since I don't have a record to sell, which should change in the coming months.)
I play for about an hour or so, and as someone walks off, a guy throws in a bill. After the song, I lean over to see what he threw in, and I noticed it was a 100 dollar bill. I said, "Oh snap" I decide it's break time, snatch the money, see if it was real, and put it in my pocket.
as I went for my usual drink, people started coming up and saying, "You know who that was, right?" and "How much did he leave?" People were saying it was Kenny Chesney, the big country singer. Well, I found the people he was with, and they were college buddies. I told them I went to school near ETSU, where he went to school. They flipped out.
So he came back to chill with this homeboy. We talked about the mountians, how I miss them so, how I took my mom to see him play, since he is a favorite of hers, and how it is like playing these shows to make ends meet. After our chill session, he had to go film a video, and then he was off to be back on tour.
But he said I could "wail" and that he liked my rendition of "These Arms of Mine" So Kenny, big ups to you. My man. It was nice meeting you, and catch you on the upside.

(see people, when you come to a melvin dillon show, it's not just a concert, but an event.)
