Harry Potter won't kick the bucket in the last book, but Ginny Weasley will.
Why do I make such a shocking and evil prediction?
J.K. likes to surprise us. But, the problem with the story she's set up is that it follows fairly conventional lines of light vs. dark, etc. These stories end in one of two ways--in the death/disabling of the villain and the death (possibly followed by a ressurection) of the hero, or in the death of the villain and a suggestion that the hero will live happily ever after.
So--I don't think J.K. will go down either of these routes, because, again, she likes to fuck with us. Harry won't die, but he won't live happily ever after, either. There does have to be a sacrifice (these kinds of stories have their rules, after all.) I don't think it'll be Ron or Hermione--we know them too well and love them too much. But something has to prevent Harry from living happily ever after, and so, Ginny Weasley is toast.
I'll still cry, though. I heart Ginny.
