Mulan, This Is It and Nine

First, I saw the new Chinese movie about the "real" Mulan (featuring the famous Russian singer Vitas). Frankly, I thought it sucked. Admittedly, I didn't understand all the dialogue, but what?! They spent 10 minutes (LESS than that!) on her going off to war and getting trained, and then she spent the rest of the time angsting/crying over her fictional boyfriend. What?! The love story ruined it. :( It had a few good twists in the story, but overall, I was not impressed. Even a lot of the battle sequences sucked, especially after I got used to seeing these beautiful fight sequences in recent Chinese movies. The only character I liked was Jackie Chan's son (who looks/acts just like him. XD)

EDIT: Also, they did nothing to make the actress look more like a boy. Nothing. She was still her slender self with her pretty voice and her big eyes. As a crossplayer, I'm almost offended. :/ It wasn't convincing at all.

After that, we watched This Is It, the documentary about Michael Jackson's last rehearsals. It was pretty awesome. O_O; It made me so sad because the show looked absolutely WIN and he still had that awesome touch of his. His voice was strong, his dancing was great, and holy crap, they literally picked the best dancers from around the U.S. to be his backup dancers. You could tell that everyone was really committed to making the show spectacular and that he just had an amazing connection with his crew/dancers. ;A; We lost such a talent.

Then my cousin and her friends took me to go watch Nine in theaters. It was... okay. I could see what they were trying to do, but I don't think the storytelling was nearly as impressive as Chicago or Moulin Rouge. Also, all the women were only in the movie for a short segment before their character faded away into the background. Not very impressive, especially with such a brilliant cast. :/ I was particularly displeased with Kate Hudson. I thought her acting could've been better, and she didn't fit in really well with the elegance of the other women.

I did LOVE Fergie though. Oh god, her voice and her song was amaaaaazing. <3 I need to go download it like whoa. 83 BEEEEEE ITTTTAALIAAAANNN!!
