Somehow, in the back of my mind, being out of school means being less busy. Perhaps that's just residual summer-job-memories of working 9-5, and then being tired and bored. I've been out of school and home a few months, and I think I'm busier than ever.
Maybe it seems like that because I don't spend hours sitting in classrooms now. I spend hours standing in a retail shop, at my internship, rehearsing with the Devil Music Ensemble's thrown-together orchestra for a concert, filling in as the file-clerk at my dad's office until they hire someone, and following my own prescribed course of study in my (possibly futile) attempt to catch up and skip the prerequisite year for the sound recording program at McGill. Oh, and I'll be recording the concerts at my old high school, and probably some rehearsals and audition tapes for students as well. And soon the BSO season will start up, which means my internship really gets started.
Meanwhile, as I was driving home at my usual 10:30pm or so, I went by the building where I went to high school, before the new one opened....and...it was GONE. I'd been watching them tear it down piece by piece all summer, but all of the sudden, there it was...GONE. A vast pile of rubble with a couple of backhoes around it. It's one of those things that doesn't quite hit you until you actually see it with your own eyes. Wow.
