Summer is over in many ways. Robert has returned to uni, the school holidays have come to an end and the weather has a distinctly Autumnal feel. I quite like Autumn. Very soon we'll be able to walk in Bushy Park and hear the stags roaring out their mating bellow. We did this once on a very misty day and it was incredibly eerie and quite awesome.
Its going to be a very busy Autumn Term. Each September starts for me like the pupils and I feel a bit like its a total new year with resolutions and all. I buy some new clothes, have my hair cut, check my pencils etc. and feel as though its all quite new. Every year I also feel vaguely optimistic that this is the year that I'm going to do great things. This year in particular, I need to have a good term and to feel a sense of personal accomplishment at the end of it. I'm willing to work hard for it...so here we go really.
Other things will keep me busy too. A while ago Nick was contacted by some people in Canada who while researching their family tree had discovered they were cousins of his. They are coming to England in a couple of weeks and staying with us at the start and end of their visit ( we live evry close to Heathrow so are very convenient for this). It feels a bit strange because we know nothing at all about them other than this recently discovered blood tie. I hope it all goes OK. Will certainly have to do a big tidy before they get there. We are not the best housekeepers in the world.
And then, excitingly, the weekend following that Len and Lola are returning from Sweden (without Pollylee this time. She's staying with her other grandmother) and we are all going to a Tindersticks gig at the Barbican. I can't wait for that.
And we are waiting for the next series of Carnivale to arrive from Screen Select so that means some time in front of the DVD.
So a busy September.
Went to see Volver yesterday, which I really enjoyed. Wasn't very acquainted with Almadovar's films till I watched Talk to Her in the week. Thought that was great too. Nick has seen All About My Mother which he really rates so we'll hire that on DVD soon.
Current reading: Mary Swann by Carol Shields.
