This was perhaps most appropiate the day after the concert...but..

So I wanted pictures to accompany this entry, the great pictures that the one and only Stephanie Ng took, and she ain't hustling with the photos yet! So I'll just go ahead and write about, what else? Interpol on March 11th at the Aragon Ballroom in Chicago.

With finals week behind me, and myself going home in like six hours, whooooa...it's hard to believe that it was just last week that I fell in love, again, and again, and again with Interpol at the concert. I wasn't surprised to see that at the show, I wasn't the only one sporting some "dressy" stuff. People had blazers, ties, dress shirts, and some went even as far as to wear suits.

The opening band, Q and Not U was amazing. I've heard thier name tossed around so much and it wasn't until recently that I made an effort to get into their music. A few weeks leading up to the show, I did express my dissappointment at the fact that Blonde Redhead wasn't opening for Interpol, but looking back, Q and Not U, for a band like Interpol, was a much more appropraite choice. They too share that dance rock mood and it's amazing how there were only three guys on stage. Listning to the songs I downloaded, each song is full of so much energy and crafsmanship and attention to detail, that I figured it might have had about five people in it or so. You can see my surprise at the end of "Soft Pyriamids." The lead singer whipped out this weird thing that looked like an oversized kazoo, which is heard at the end of the song. I was even more amazed at the bass player, who often switched back and forth between his bass and his synthesizer...I love synthesizers. Or what about that song with not one, but two basslines? Oh my god, this alone made me want to go back home and start "bassing" more than I did.

And then...Interpol came on...With their red lights and formal wear as always. I especially loved Carlos' D's outfit. I don't know what it was, but he was wearing a real awesome overcoat and a vest and white shirt with some weird tie. And as always, he had his gun holster on...beautiful. They opened up with "Next Exit," which I wasn't so much of a fan of, but it was something about hearing it live that raised its appeal to me. Maybe it was that delicate guitar picking that went along with it, or the synthesizer looming in the background, I don't know; but what if they had played "Untitled" instead?

I remember the next song being "Slow Hands," and once I heard it come on, I couldn't help but notice Carlos D, and all the sounds coming out of his Ampeg set-up. That's why I love going to shows; it helps you notice the bassline more, let alone see how crazy the person is playing the notes...and well I realized that Slow Hands has one of the craziest basslines towards its end. I'm so glad they played "Obstacle 1," "NYC," "PDA," Hands Away," Stella Was A Diver And She Was Always Down," Roland," "Narc," TAKE YOU ON A CRUISE," "Public Pervert," "A Time To Be Small," and "Specialist." Whoa how did I love it when they played "Specialist." I was looking so forward to hearing "Take You On A Cruise" and when they did, I just blocked everything else out of my conciousness and focused on Interpol, just Interpol...Live, hearing all the subtleties in the guitar lines and hearing the weird haunting effect is has on me during the chorus, it was just so beautiful...especially during the part where Paul goes, "I am the scaveneger," the part that sends chills down my spine and would make me swoon if I was a girl. Hearing "NYC" made me think of home, obviously, and it was just so beautiful when they had the disco light shining brightly. How appropraite during a song that has the lyric, "Turn on the bright lights." The lighting was so appropriate to the all the music, especially during PDA, with the strobe lights. I am just digging the red lighting so much. I loved Carlos D's moves during the show (he's such a great bass player), as well as Daniel Kessler, the guitarist, who often just randomly busts out dancing. "Hands Away" was hauntingly beautiful to me, yes hauntingly, cause it's just one of those such dark songs, but at the same time hold such great melody to me. There were other instances where that came up, like "Take You On A Cruise." If they had only played "Obstacle 2." Nonetheless, I had a great time, and knowing I didn't have to watch out for crowdsurfers or moshpits just made it all the more better...Interpol has one of the best live performances I have seen

The night topped off with eating at the Broadway Grill with Stephanie and Cindy, who I must say I had an awesome time with.

Thank you Interpol, so much...And with that, I'm almost home, which will prove to be a strange, but still heartwarming experience. This also means I'm done with my finals, take that school!..

"And you cannot safely say while I will be away
That you will not consider sadly how you hurt me this free
You will not reach me I am resenting a position that is past resentment now I can consider now there is this distance so "

I love those lines so much...ah! =)
