so like...yeah. so much has happened this summer, I just feel like...it's been a year instead of a month.
I'm at camp-and it's wonderful. I've met soooo many amazing people, it's like my new home away from home.
there are staff from all around the world, places like argentina, turkey, sweden, latvia, australia, israel...it's so "culturally enriching..." if you know what I mean.
I love all of my co-counselors and all fourteen of my little kids. I truly feel like for the past month I have been mother to all of them. whether it be wiping their noses, getting sneezed on, cleaning up vomit, helping with an art project, or teaching to hit a tennis ball...I love these kids.
I have completely gotten over my fear of leaving my friends. I've been here for 5 weeks, and I haven't seen most of them for that long---we still talk a lot and I'm completely confident that through the good and the bad we will ALWAYS pull through.
my mom is doing ok. my parents cancelled their trip to italy because she can't really walk. but she's doing a lot better than she has been for the past few months. my dad and brother are taking amazing care of her.
my sister left for camp on saturday. she wrote me this letter before she left:
"erin-
even if we didn't get to spend so much time together before I went to camp, everything that we did together is very special to me. I love you so much and I'm glad that we are sisters. write me at camp and say hi to jessie."
jessie garber- you are my life. I can't wait to see you again.
carly smith- you are my sister. Hang in there, love.
celia chao- you are my shining star. It was AMAZING to talk to you.
lindsay smith- you are my heart and soul. I loooove you.
jamie ostroff- you are my world. I hope camp is wonderful.
today I was asked by a four year-old...
"are you happy to be here with me? or do you want to go home with your family?"
and I said...
"I have two families...my family at home with my friends, and my camp family...who is here with me now. and I love them both, so yes--I'm so happy to be here with you."
stay safe. and have an amazing summer.
