Part 11 The moment Yoochun walked into the room with another man, Jaejoong knew shits were going down the drain.
Changmin, Yunho, and Jaejoong had been helping Junsu to pack up as he was allowed to go home that day. Junho, Junsu’s twin brother, had called and said he would be on his way to pick them up. Yunho had tried reaching his brother, but the latter did not answer his calls. He had asked Jaejoong of what happened between the two the day before but Jaejoong said nothing happened. That moment, the door chose to open, revealing Yoochun with another man on his arm.
That moment, Jaejoong knew it was the person he feared the most. It was Kim Hyunjoong.
Everyone in the room froze.
Yoochun turned his gaze to Hyunjoong, the way he regard him and held out his hand to the latter was just like a man proudly showcasing to his friends the love of his life. Jaejoong gripped the hem of his shirt, willing the anger away. He felt betrayed and abandoned, it was as though Yoochun was indirectly saying to him, “I don’t need you anymore” and it really hurts the fucking hell.
Jaejoong mentally heaved a deep sigh, shoulders sinking in despair, wondering why this is happening to him. The other day, it was just him and Yoochun and now there’s Hyunjoong in the picture. And since Hyunjoong is back, what else would Yoochun want from him?
Maybe I should go back to being the normal guy. Jaejoong mentally reprimanded himself. Yeah, being normal would be good.
“Stop trying to figure me out, I don’t like it. Why can’t you be more like Hyunjoong?” The words kept repeating in his head, Don’t worry Yoochun, I won’t try to figure you out again. He silently said as his eyes settled once again at Yoochun’s happy glowing face.
“Jae, Junsu,” Yoochun smiled as he faced them, “This is Hyunjoong, he…” his eyes met Jaejoong’s for a moment before he continued, “…was my partner. It was a long story to tell you. What matters right now is that, he’s alive.”
Jaejoong was the first to extend his hand and greeted Hyunjoong, he gave the man a smile as he told him it was really nice to finally meet him. Junsu silently cast his best friend a worried look. He knew best that beneath the sweet masked that Jaejoong tried to pull off, lies a hurtful soul. If anyone knows Jae like he does, if anyone is looking at Jaejoong right now, they would see just how much this is hurting him.
Junsu knew that despite Jaejoong’s denial over his feeling for Yoochun, that despite the irritation he felt sometimes and his frustration towards Yoochun…Jaejoong truly likes, love even, his partner. And looking at Jae that way, hurts him too.
Junsu didn’t take Hyunjoong’s hand for a handshake, he just tip his head, regarding him. “I’m Junsu, Yunho’s partner and boyfriend.” He said, the coldness in his voice was very evident. Yoochun cast him a disapproving glance while Yunho frowned at him.
Yes, he is Yoochun’s childhood friend and ex-partner. He already greeted him and acknowledged his presence, he’d been actually nice to do that so what’s with their look? So what now? Yoochun wants them, him, to befriend the guy? No, he won’t. He do have the right to choose who he wants to be friend with. And besides, if he does, then it feels like he’s betraying his best friend.
Friendship over boyfriends, any time, any day. And it applies to this situation too.
Yunho watched the scene in front of him, eyes darting back to Yoochun’s gleeful face to Jaejoong’s pained looking eyes and even the hostility Junsu just shown. He couldn’t believe his eyes, it is truly Yoochun’s Hyunjoong, just a bit older.
He’d seen him that day, when he was bathed in blood and barely breathing. It was impossible to survive, no one would, when you were stabbed 13 times, electrocuted until your skin turns a lighter shade of brown and dragged you like a rag doll.
It was said that Hyunjoong’s attackers had been Fire and Electricity possessors. Hyunjoong’s an Air, he won’t stand a chance with them. Not ever. And until now, Yunho kept wondering how did Yoochun managed to burn them when they’re all do have the same intensity of powers. And Fire can’t burn a fire user. It’s impossible. His thoughts were broken when Junho popped his head and announced that the car is ready and they’re off to go.
But even before any of them regarded Junho and help Junsu with his things, Jaejoong abruptly stood up with his bag in hand. He faced Junsu and hugged him quickly.
“I’m sorry Su-ie, I need to get home now. I promised Sica Noona something...”
Junsu squeezed his hand and nodded. Jaejoong hugged Junsu again and quickly said his goodbyes to the guys without meeting the guilty expression marring Yoochun’s face.
“J-Jae...” Yoochun called but a hand prevented him to ran to his partner. He looked down at their hands, “Shit!” and realized his stupidity. He looked up and met Junsu’s annoyed face, and then he cursed again. He caught Changmin tilting his head outside, telling him to go find Jaejoong and explain. So he freed the tight hold in his hand, not caring when Hyunjoong called him a few times, asking him to go back.
But it’s too late, the moment he got out of the hospital. Jaejoong was nowhere insight. And his phone is already out of coverage.
“Fuck!” Yoochun pull his hair out of frustration.
Hyunjoong pouted at the sight of Yoochun running out of the room. He sighed and flopped down on a chair, before looking down on the floor and started biting the nail of his thumb. Changmin watched the boy, who he refused to call by the name Hyunjoong, in suspicion. Damn, he did act like the Hyunjoong they all know, from they way he talked to that habit of biting his thumb nail. However, something was off with Hyunjoong’s character, he was never this selfish. He never stood against Yoochun as well. Just now this boy in front of him prevented Yoochun from chasing after Jaejoong, which was an act of selfishness and by that he was against Yoochun’s will. But then when it comes to someone’s character, after being away for 5 years, people could change.
Changmin tried to think of a trick the boy used in case he wasn’t the Hyunjoong they all knew, but he couldn’t find any. He had never hear of shape lifting power or such that could make villains turn into their Hyunjoong, and even act like one.
He decided to play along with the stranger’s game, reminding himself to keep being cautious of the evil plan beneath his role playing, in case he’s not Hyunjoong.
“Hyunnie, would you like to come over for tea and donuts? Just like old times,” Changmin offered.
Hyunjoong looked up to Changmin with a smile and nodded, “Yes, hyung, your caramel tea is the best!”
And how the hell would a poser know what his caramel tea tastes like?
Yunho helped his lover walked to the elevator, his arm wrapped carefully around the smaller man’s waist. He noticed Junsu’s pout, and when he was sure Changmin and Hyunjoong were out of range, he asked Junsu what was bothering him.
“I don’t like him,” Junsu muttered in his ears.
“Why?” Yunho whispered back.
“I just don’t.” And their short conversation ended upon the arrival of the other two.

Jaejoong took a deep breath, trying to stop his tears. When he was calmed enough, he dialed the numbers he knew so well. The dial tone’s monotone ring was a little calming, but until the last ring, no one picked up. He tried again, wiping the tears that started to fall once again, but the person he needed the most wasn’t there. He bit his lips as the dial tone died and the answering machine greeted him. He redialed the number again, for one last time, and halfway the dial tone, he picked up.
“Jaejoong?”
“Hyukjae,” tears started falling uncomfortable once more down Jaejoong’s cheeks, “Hyukkie, where are you?”
“I- uh, somewhere far,” Hyukjae reasoned when he heard Jaejoong’s breath hitched. “Jaejae? Are you crying?”
“No, uh, I mean, yeah, a little,” Jaejoong stuttered. “I’m sorry I bothered you but I really, really need my best friend right now.”
“God, Jaejoong, I’m sorry I can’t be there,” there was apparent regret in Hyukjae’s voice that Jaejoong told him it was okay. “Tell me what happened?”
And Jaejoong did, about Hyunjoong and Yoochun and everything else that had been burdening him. He had enough of Yoochun toying with his feelings; one second he held his hand and kissed him and the next he was showcasing his zombie partner. What did Yoochun take him for? A spare tire to his car? Just another tool to help him in fights? He really had enough.
Even so, he couldn’t find the strength to turn on his heels and walk away.
As he let out everything that had been suffocating him, he wasn’t aware of how Hyukjae’s mood turned darker. Hyukjae listened to his best friend’s sobs as his hand tightened to a fist. What was it about the two brothers, hurting his best friends over and over again? He couldn’t tolerate them anymore, not with their life on the line and the brothers treating them like nothing but a tool.
“Leave him,” Hyukjae told Jaejoong.
“You know I can’t, Hyukkie,” Jaejoong whined, wiping his tear with the hem of his sleeve.
“Dammit, Jaejoong, I don’t want you to keep hurting!” Hyukjae growled.
“I know,” Jaejoong sighed, “I’m sorry, Hyukkie-ah... He-- well, he’s my partner...”
“He has another partner now, what about you find a new one too?”
“It’s not that easy. It’s not like I could just change partner, okay? We have bonds.”
“I hate him. I hate them,” Hyukjae sighed. “I don’t want you and Su to get hurt...”
“Of course you don’t,” Jaejoong smiled, “Thank you, you’re the best friend I’ve ever had.”
Hyukjae smiled back, “I know.”
An hour later when Jaejoong had finished ranting and Hyukjae had been trying to stop his crying, the line disconnected. He gritted his teeth and punched the punching bag he had been practicing with, using a lot of electric force that the bag exploded. Miura walked down the stair and stared at raged Hyukjae with a smile.
“I’m going to kill them both,” Hyukjae told him, “I will.”
Miura’s smile widened, “I’m here to help.”

Yoochun looked around, hoping to see even Jae’s shadow but luck wouldn’t let him. He sighed. He was fast losing minutes of his lifetime sighing over this matter. Why am I so stupid?
He ran, until he got in an abandoned lot.
“Phix!”
What’s up Boss?
“Where’s Wicca? Please ask her where Jae is.”
He didn’t need to wait for too long, as an image immediately flashed in his mind. He rummaged his memory to where did he seen that place, because he was so sure he’d seen it before.
He’s alone and crying...
A sudden ache in his heart jolted him awake, pulling him out of his reverie. Jaejoong. His Jaejoong is alone and crying. And that was because of him. Wait, did he just say his?
Stop battling with yourself and find him!
Yoochun ignored the hint of irritation in Phix’s voice and asked, “Is Wicca with him? Please tell her to stay until I come.”
Then another voice rang in his ears.
I can make him stay a little longer, so better hurry up!
He send his thanks to her and then he took off into a ran, pulling his phone out of his pocket and dialed Jaejoong’s phone once again. It rang, a few times before the line got disconnected. He bit his lip, trying not to shout out his frustration.
It didn’t take too long for Yoochun to find the place where Jaejoong decided to ran off. When he saw him there, lying on his back on the grass with his eyes closed, a tender smile immediately settled on his lips. For a moment he forgot why he was there and got mesmerized in Jaejoong ethereal beauty. Probably, feeling like someone is watching him, Jaejoong’s eyes fluttered open and he froze.
He felt a pang of pain when he noticed the extent of his stupidity. Jae sat up straight, Oh damn. Don’t run away from me...not again but he didn’t move on his spot. He couldn’t read Jae’s expression, his face was utterly devoid of any.
“Hey.” He greeted a bit awkwardly, “I was worried when you ran off...” and finally succeeded in saying the words.
Jaejoong turned his head away from his direction. He chanced a step forward until he was almost at his side, keeping an eye on Jae in case the lad will jolt back away from him. Jae didn’t, so he took the remaining steps and boldly faced him.
Yoochun waited as he watched Jaejoong for a moment. Was he not going to ask why I am here? And how did I found him?
“If you’re mad about Hyunjoong...”
It got his attention as he turn to look at Yoochun, he studied him, feeling himself detach from the situation on hand. “I’m not.” It looked like Yoochun intended to grab his hand but he quickly evaded him and stood up.
“Please Jae, don’t leave again. We need to talk, I need to explain you something. Please.” Yoochun said as he blocked his way.
He looked at him calmly, it’s a cue that he would listen to whatever explanation he would tell, but Yoochun was taking too much time staring at him that it getting awkward already. Fingers brushed his cheek, the tender touch had him leaning into it without him knowing.
“I-I’m sorry...”
“You must be very happy that...h-he’s alive.”
“I am.”
“I can’t say the same for you.”
“I know, you don’t have to. I’m sorry.”
“Is he... Will he be... Your partner...”
“You are my partner, Jae.”
Some part of him lets out a breath he didn’t know he had been holding. Jaejoong find it hard to look away from those deep brown orbs, too hard that every second he kept the eye contact, the deeper he was being drawn into it. The pain and anger he felt towards him had greatly overshadowed his affection for Yoochun, the love he didn’t know when or how got started, slowly came rushing out of him.
“Chun~ Don’t leave me.” Jaejoong didn’t care if he sounded too needy, begging for his man to stay at his side and to not leave for another man.
Yoochun took his hand, “I... I’ll not promise you anything, Jae. I once did in the past but I had failed, I’d broken that promise.”
“To Hyunjoong?”
Yoochun nodded, “I’m confused. I’m torn. I feel guilty. I don’t know what to feel anymore. I should be happy that Hyunjoong is back but there is a nagging feeling here,” Yoochun tapped his chest, “...telling me and scolding me even for neglecting you, for hurting you. I don’t want you to feel I’m taking you for granted. You are... very dear to me. And... this, this feeling I’m constantly having is scaring me. The thought of you leaving hurts me more than I could imagine.”
Jaejoong could not even begin to guess the amount of courage it took for Yoochun to say that. “I’m more than scared of not having you beside me, to tease you and make fun of you or even hold your hand and kiss your lips. Yunho was right, he said I’ll fall for you big time.”
He stood there without taking a single breath, afraid that once he did Yoochun would break into million pieces and disappear into thin air. Did Yoochun really say what he just heard right now? That Yoochun had fallen for him?
“I like you so much Jaejoong. I don’t care if you don’t feel the same way about me ---”
“You’re an idiot!”
“I’ll pretend you didn’t say that. But no matter what will I do after this, or tomorrow or the next day; please remember that you’re already here,” Yoochun took his hand and pressed it over his beating heart, “...always and maybe even forever.”
They share a gaze and a mutual understand formed. Jaejoong knew that Yoochun already know how he feels about him, Yoochun didn’t need a verbal confirmation over it but, “I like you too.”
Yoochun smiled down at him, but it was a sad smile. “Would you do me a favor?” Yoochun said as he caressed his cheek. He nodded in return.
“That whatever shit happens, don’t leave me, even I ask you to. Please don’t. Just stay at my side all the time. Since I can’t trust myself at keeping that promise, please do that favor for me instead.”
“You’re such a selfish bastard.”
“Always am. Now promise me.”
Jaejoong didn’t know if he was making the right decision but he would take the risk, because it was his Yoochun who was asking.
“I won’t and wouldn’t leave you.”
Yoochun pulled him into his arms, the warmth made him buried his face at the crook of Yoochun’s neck, inhaling his natural scent.
Jaejoong wanted to ask other matters, about Hyunjoong and all stuff related to him but he didn’t have the heart to spoil this moment.
Maybe next time.
