A rare public announcement -- is it time to RP yet?

Dec 26, 2025 16:04

Welcome to what's possibly the only public entry I'll ever make!

Some preliminary stuff...

So, I've been thinking, and I'd really like to get involved in an LJ-rooted RP or two.  A lot of communities already have an Azula, so I'm at a bit of a loss in finding one.  Same goes for one-on-one RPing: not sure where to go ( Read more... )

As far as how you found this journal goes, it's okay.  I just ask that out of curiosity.  It doesn't really change anything!

"I was looking through this and the survey on your RP journal, and I absolutely love your take on Azula. She is a sociopath, and even after the finale she's not going to become magically all rainbows and ponies. She's got real issues and she's not about to admit that any time soon. I think there are definitely many ways she could go, but she will never be "healthy" in the usual sense of the word no matter what."

That... is such high praise, and I really am humbled by it.  I've been RPing Azula since last summer, and throughout the show's run, one glaring facet of her personality remained constant: her sociopathy.  Even at the very end, she was still a sociopath.  People tend to dismiss it by invoking her "ability to feel" -- but they're missing the point of her breakdown and personality at large.  Sociopaths aren't completely devoid of emotion ( the closest thing to that is a schizoid ).  Their expression of emotion is disjointed, malformed, and even empty, at times.  But, when faced with crisis -- a lack of control -- they tend to lose it.  Her breakdown was purely self-centered, and she learned nothing from it.  Because she is a sociopath, an uncurable disorder, you're right: she'll never be "healthy".  Theoretically, there's a small window for improvement, but the disorder can never be cured.  She'll forever have an underlying -- if not glaring -- slant toward cruelty and selfishness.

I would absolutely love to RP with you sometime, too!  And the thing with male characters is no problem.  I have no qualms about having Azula interact with males, provided the other person understands ( and you do! ) that there will never be anything resembling romance involved.  I do have an honest preference toward female characters, though, because I'm fascinated by the ease with which she interacts with them.

Any female character would definitely work out fine.  I'll let you decide who you want to try!

If you have another RP journal, I'll gladly friend it.  :)

Well, if you don't mind my using preexisting journals, then I'd like to just use an account I already have. I have this one for Katara, and I also just picked up Ursa in the same RP (biteyouback).

The only thing is that we couldn't RP directly in posts to the journals, because entries are reserved for the game I'm in. So if it's alright to just use your Azula journal for it (or any applicable community), then I'll go for Katara or Ursa (or both) for simplicity's sake.

Oh, no, I don't mind that at all!  I wouldn't ask you to create a separate account.  I'm gonna' go ahead and friend your journals under this journal and my Azula journal.

I understand not being able to use your journals for posting.  What we could do is use filters, wherein you "lock" your entries exclusively to me.  It's a form of privatizing entries.  It's okay if you decline.  Whichever way you decide, we can definitely use my Azula journal, as the community I'm a member of has no obligations attached regarding the usage of the characters' personal journals.

Ah, using filters is a good idea! I don't mind using entries in the accounts, I just don't want to clog up the flists of other people in the game with non-game related posts. I'll add both accounts back. :)

Did you have a particular plot in mind, or point at which you'd like to start?

I thought I would suggest it.  ;)  In the end, the decision is yours, whether or not to go with filters.  I understand if it would disorganize your journals to do so.  Thanks for friending them both!  8D

As for a particular plot: I don't have one offhand, but I'm usually pretty quick to come up with something, once we figure out what characters we'll be using, the timeframes, etc. ... I just know that, for the time being, I would prefer to stick with a sane!Azula.  I've had her lapse into temporary schizophrenia before ( and this was before the finalé aired ), but have never done full-blown Crazula.  It would be interesting to pick up sometime after the finalé, but, for now, I'm wanting the cool, collected Azula.

Do you have any ideas?

I'll say that, with your choice of characters, pretty much nothing is off-limits!

I've been thinking, but I couldn't really come up with anything. Sane!Azula is just fine. I think I'd like to start out with Katara, and perhaps work Ursa in later, or in a different plot.

I'm perfectly fine with just winging it, as I can't really come up with anything. As long as there's some reason they're around each other I can work from there.

And I'm also fine with anything so far as these characters go.

Starting out with Katara and later working Ursa in is fine.  I guess the challenge is coming up with a plot where they would be around each other!  The only canonical time they were shown together, when Azula was sane, was in the S2 finalé.

Looks like we'll have to wing it, and I have no objection to doing so.  Plot-wise, I'll do anything from srs bznz to absolute crack, as long as it's set in the Avatarverse ( not a fan of other universes/worlds ).

I'm glad you're so open -- it'll make things easier once we get going.  ;)

Plotwise I'm the same... I'm fine with srs bznz, and if this journal is any indication I am 100% fine with crack. However I'm also all for it just being in the Avatarverse, because I want to play around with her in there. I love my AU Katara, but... I already play her, you know? XD

Yeah, as for a plot where they're around each other... I guess we'll have to go for a random meeting in a town or something?

LOL, yeah, I saw your cracktastic journal.  ;D  Really, whatever you want to do is fine: srs, crack, or changing it up at a whim.  Heh, in any case, now's your chance to test out Avatarverse!Katara!

"A random meeting in a town or something" works for me!

Pre-eclipse or post-?  I ask because I'd like to fashion a motive for Azula being there.  She doesn't make a habit of visiting humble towns for the joyous heck of it, after all.  ;)  So, if pre-eclipse, she could be looking for Aang... post-eclipse, Zuko or Aang.  Either way, Katara would be alone: this is mainly to establish a timeframe and to stop Azula from being so LOL-random.

Eh, let's just roll with it and see what happens. A good balance of srs and crack is always nice.

Hmmm... How about pre-eclipse? Because it wouldn't be that weird for them to have run into each other around the time of Tales of Ba Sing Se or something. That gives a good reason for them to be in the same place and for Katara to be alone.

Sure thing.

"A good balance of srs and crack is always nice."

Couldn't agree more!

Okay.  Pre-eclipse, it is.  Around the time of Tales Of Ba Sing Se sounds good, since Azula was back on the move after the drill failure.  Mai and Ty Lee can... well... they can be off doing their own thing or something.

Sounds good!

So it's fine if we do this in Azula's journal for now? If so then you can make an entry whenever, unless there's anything else you'd like to work out first.

Great!

Sure, we can use Azula's journal for as long as you want.  I'll lock all entries to your two accounts.  I'll write the post in third-person, and I'd imagine we would RP like we've been doing in atladressing, with actions dictated in third-person and dialogue in first.

Okay. And yeah, that style of RP sounds great. Awesome!
