I just finished Doctor Who season 3 today and watched the Christmas episode in between seasons 3 and 4. It's pretty brilliant. I love this show. Funny enough, right after I finished season 3, Boyfriend called me to talk about time travel. Of course, all I can think is "wibbly-wobbly, timey-wimey." Hahaha.
I finished reading The Girl With the Dragon Tattoo a couple days ago. It was really good. I do think that Alison Scagliotti would make a good Lisbeth Salander. Even more so after last night's episode of Warehouse 13. I don't have any really deep thoughts about that book - unsurprising considering I'm an engineer. I thought a lot of it was predictable but the parts that weren't really threw me for a loop. I haven't started the next book in the trilogy because I have so many others already waiting for me, but I will soon. I really like the way Larsson writes. Generally, I stick to YA books because they read much like television episodes. There isn't a lot of setup in TV because you can see the scenery so the story simply progresses without all the nonsense about stone columns or the messiness of someone's desk. In Larsson's book, all of the descriptions are spread out over the whole book. This made it much easier for me to read it. I never got bored for a long streak of pages but instead would find a couple paragraphs at a time. I really enjoyed reading the book.
Next up, Clockwork Heart by Dru Pagliassotti. My friend, Alex, gave me the book for graduation. It's a steampunk, scifi romance, as far as I can tell. I am already about 100 pages into it and so far I love it. There are castes, lighter-than-air metals and people who fly. I'll let y'all know how it goes. Has anyone read this book or does anyone want to read it with me?
Reading this has made me want to craft steampunk-y things again. I went to Michael's with Boyfriend the other day. They had this new line of jewelry charms called Industrial Chic. I got some charms, cord, toggle clasps and their idea book. I really hope I can get more sewing done in the coming months so I can make some steampunk clothes to match my new jewelry. Of course, I will hopefully be able to sell some on my Etsy. I hate making jewelry and having to part with it, especially if I only make one and making two is expensive. I guess its like Boyfriend says, I have to spend money to make money.
On a totally unrelated note, I am sensing a problem that I am going to have with moving to Valdosta. I mean, I'm sure there will be more than one, but this is different than most other problems. My issue is accents. See, I can copy them pretty damn well. My Hebrew teachers used to ask my parents who spoke Hebrew at home because I sounded like an Israeli. Watching Doctor Who these past few weeks has made me actually have to think about not using a British accent. I'm pretty sure that after a few weeks in Valdosta, I will sound like a native born Southerner. That is going to be fun at family functions.
I've been working now for a few weeks as a babysitter/nanny. One of my mom's friends, Katherine, has three kids: a 7 year old, Ronin, a 3 year old, Kael, and a 6 month old baby, Thane. Kael has a rare seizure disorder called Dravet's Syndrome. They have a bunch of babysitters and nannies that work for them. Someone always has to be watching him in case he has a seizure. They also have a one year old puppy named Nimbus, a golden retriever, standard poodle mix. He is adorable but he is so rambunctious and they can't train him or Ronin to be good. When I try to teach him, it works, but then Ronin comes in and he's very aggressive. He sees his dad play rough with Nimbus and copies him but ends up hurting the dog and making him afraid instead of just playing. Anyhow, I really love spending time with that family. They are all so sweet and kind-hearted. Ronin says I'm his favorite nanny. Probably because I play video games with him. We've played LEGO Rock Band many times as well as Dragon Ball Z, Rampage and, today, LEGO Batman.
I am really having a good time being between school and a real job. Though this weekend, I'll be in Valdosta looking for a place to live. I think reality is going to settle in quickly for me. For now, I'm just enjoying the free time - spending as much time reading, watching Doctor Who and being with Boyfriend as possible. That's all for now!
