Okay...so I'm due for an update. Why? Cause I'm in the capital of Germany, and I'm fairly certain that Berlin deserves a livejournal post. Okay...so...let's begin with a short sumamry of everything that's of importance that's happened so far.

Um...my flight from St. Louis to Newark was late, so I missed my plane, and wound up staying in New Jersey for a day. Huzzah! No change of clothes or anything...mmm boy did I smell fantastic when I arrived in Berlin. But that's okay, cause I got my luggage all right, and the people tend to smell here, anyway, so I fit right in.

Me and my camcorder have been to lots of touristy places, which of course is good. We're talking the Berliner Dom, the Reichstag, the Olympia Stadion, etc. But what's really great, is that I get to experience the life of someone living in Berlin. Yes, the people can be total asses to you because they realize you're a foreigner. Yes, they can be really nice when they realize that you're trying to learn their language. Yes, they can be asses even though they realize you're trying to learn their language. It's great!

And the toilets...well, that's just a story in and of itself. There's this really weird ledge in some of them that "stuff" just drops on to. You know how the Germans are...very efficient, very practical...I'm sure this serves some purpose. Maybe it serves to ensure they can regulate their health...see if they're eating correctly...please Germans, don't let me down on this one. Let there be some method to the madness here. Yeah, my room is all right, but the living accomodations are so unbelievably sketch. For those of you who saw my room at SLU...it's way worse. The bathrooms are so ghetto, as are the showers (they're separate from one another). Thankfully, there's always hot water. But always having to bring your own hand soap and your own toilet paper is a bit of a pain at times. And there's no trash can in the bathroom...ladies, I think we know what the problem is with that.

The food isn't too bad...a steady diet of carbs and proteins keeps a person fit for roaming around Berlin. Seriously, I have a piece of fruit maybe every other day. Why have I not learned to cook yet? What was I thinking? Sandwiches every bloody day do get a little old.

As for the other students, most of them are pretty chill. I hang mostly with these 2 French girls (yeah I know...me, with French people...who woulda thought?) and a Canadian girl. We speak German most of the time together...I have no idea if we're speaking it correctly, but at least we're getting practice in. Did you know that to the French, Americans often sound like they're speaking through their noses? Talk about role reversal.

Ummm...yeah...I have to go back to class. So that's some of what's happening. The beef jerky here is great, too. :) Peace, chicken grease, and an Old Navy fleece.
