You put your heart into a presentation, and you know that you're going out on a limb with a wild interpretation. Even though it takes the place of your final, you're willing to take this chance. Who knows... maybe you've struck gold? You finish your presentation, standing in front of the lecture hall with the mic still attached to your shirt. Someone starts to clap.

But the professor says, "No. That was wrong. Clearly, you did not read the whole book."
You start to say, "but, this is how we interpreted it from this chapter."
And he replies, "you should have read the whole book."

All you can do is nod. You feel like he's just shot you in the heart. The class is shocked too, but nervous they start to clap-- showing you their respect. They sit there thinking, 'well I'm glad he didn't realize that we didn't read the book either.'

I feel like a fool.

This is the most dejected feeling in the world.
