we got a new car!

I'm very excited about our new car. We picked out the Toyota Matrix, which is actually a Corolla, which they just jacked up a bit and added a hatchback. I also think it's a bit wider than the regular sedan corolla because Liz and I can both use the arm rest in the middle of the car at the same time.

The reason we ended up getting the car in the first place is because Liz's Saturn had 90000 miles on it and needed a new timing belt, new brakes, new struts, new shocks, new almost everything. The total for that much work was going to run somewhere around 2500. Kelly blue book says the car is worth 2000 so it didn't make any sense to fix the darn thing, just to sell it again in a year or two when we need a family car. That led us to the decision to just go car shopping and see what was out there.

Saturday, we went to 4, yes 4 dealerships. Subaru, Honda, Kia and Toyota. Our car-selling friend told us that Kia has started reverse engineering BMW, Honda, Toyota and Mercedes and have figured out ways to use that technology in a cheaper box. They had this cute little car called a Soul and it was just about perfect, but a little too cheap for comfort. I mean, sure, it's great that they can make cheap cars, but cars aren't supposed to be cheap, so we were a little wary of that. Also, they don't lease them because they can't resell them. Hmmm....

The Subaru Forrester and Outback were ok, but if you can believe it, we thought the Forrester was too big and the Outback was too small in the backseat. The CRV from Honda was also too big. They have redesigned all these cars that used to be mid sized sport suvs and they are now giants. Look around next time you're on the road. You'll see what I mean.

At toyota, we saw the Matrix and it was just like.... Yes. It's not an SUV, It's a car that is higher off the ground and has a hatch. There is an enormous amount of room in this car. I can say that because I am sitting in it right now, using the tiny computer and the stolen wifi from Hamline university.

My class got out early amnd i'm waiting patiently for the time to roll around to 9:30 when Liz will be done with her class. I have recently discovered this really cool website called last.fm.com. It's ike Yahoo radio, but better. You just type in the name of someone and it plays that artist and other artists like it that it thinks you might like. You can create a profile and save the artists you like the best, add tracks to your favorites and make a whole library that you can access anytime you want, if you have an internet connection. This is great for me because I haven't gotten around to adding any songs to my laptop and ... Liz is here. gotta gol
