Firstly, this all-natural chapstick thing that I walked out of Ritchies with, because I went in to check for Shishi/Sana-caps, but they didn't have any, and I had to buy something is an absolute godsend. D: It doesn't make the skin of my face peelfromthemouth. :o Which is brilliant, considering I couldn't smile for a week after seeing MI:3 (damn

It is mainly just white people who DON'T NOTICE AT ALL the differences in facial shapes, cheekbones, eyes, whatever. XD They lose.
Also, you could mention the amazingly varied dialects of Chinese! AMAZING. VARIED. AS IN, PEOPLE FROM DIF PARTS OF CHINA MUST KNOW THEIR DIALECT + MANDARIN OR CANTONESE IN ORDER TO COMMUNICATE. XD

Karen. XD I wanted to use you in my study <3 Was going to research a second-generation perspective: growing up speaking a heritage language, vs. not. XD; You would be my heritage language specimen, and I would be the not. XD However, as you know. I am late with this essay already <3
I COULD! :D I think I shall. 8D <-talking about the Greeks at the moment, wtf. I KNOW NOTHING ABOUT THE GREEKS. XD; Except for how they interact with other communities and through generations, in Melbourne.

ALSO. XD IT'S NOT LATE IF YOU HAVE AN EXTENSION TIL MONDAY (YOU FREAK XD).
And you know plenty about Greeks. XD WRITE, JOFACE, WRITE.

I'm talking about the extent to which speaking a heritage language is a vital part of maintaining ethnic identity. XD I do believe my entire paper/argument hinges on schoolyard isolation felt by kids who don't speak the Mother Tongue, and how this pushes them from their ID for LIFE, thanks to the Ripple Effect, or some other crap. XD; *pained* It makes sense, no?
YES, BUT IT WAS DUE LAST WEDNESDAY, THEREFORE. XD LATE. *has never had to ask for an extention before*
...right. XD FROM WATCHING TROY. *delves back into Word*

But, uh, at my school there were never many asians, whereas my brother went to a school with heaps of asian kids. He and his friends speak mostly cantonese and are more embedded into the HK cultural lifestyle - the music, clothing, trends, whatever.
If you were an asian kid around other asians and you DID NOT SPEAK canto or whatever, you would feel so stupid XD;; And left out. And like, white. > > You wouldn't hang out in the same places, wouldn't know the same singers, et cetera. XD The thing about being asian is you can't really hide it. Like, everyone knows just by looking at you that you don't come from a purely english-speaking background, so there's pretty much always expectations.
OR SOMETHING :D;

Oh man. XD You know what I mean.
When you speak the discourse, then your understanding of values or whatever will be framed in that language. Take a look at how western and chinese films approach different issues - if you don't speak your ethnic language, I believe you sort of lose layers of meaning and understanding that your parent culture has. Like, um. XD I DON'T KNOW.
MY SOUP IS DELICIOUS, JOFACE :D YOU JUST WISH YOU HAD SOME.
