"I see you survived the battle. Good work, my dear."
"Thanks," Zohar walked over. Logos was smoking a pipe by the fire, looking glum. "Merzaq- the Black Sun... they were one and the same. He's dead."
"Yes. Do you understand now, how you had a destiny without having a Destiny?"
"I do. Are... you alright?"
"I am merely considering the future. Yours, specifically."
"What's stopping you from looking?"
"I have always been able to see your future," he began, "until yesterday. Your future always ended at the door- I cannot see you further. Not your life, not your death. I do not know what becomes of you if you pursue this. I simply cannot see it. You know which door I speak of."
"The Threshold."
"You do not have to return there, Zohar. You have a bright future even if you wish to live a mortal life as a Master. I've seen that future. Children, Dynasties, a legacy that will live on for all of time. That is one of the possibilities I see, when the Threshold is removed from the equation."
"I made a promise."
"You must draw a line somewhere."
"When it comes to Teth, there IS no line!" She shook her head. "Logos. Heliodromus. I am eternally grateful for everything you've done. For the path you've set before me and anyone else who wants to walk your path. But that's just it... it's your path. It's not mine. There are many roads to that Mystery. I think I've found one. So I have to try. I've felt it pulling at me ever since I saw it the first time. I know that sooner or later I'll end up there again, but this time I'm going to pass through that door! I'm going to grasp that Mystery, and he's going to be right there with me! I have faith in us. In him, and in myself. I can't live in eternity alone. So I won't. I can't do what you did. I can't be like you. So... I'm... not going to be you."
"Then all I can say is what I've said before. Good luck. I sincerely hope I see you again."
"Thank you...I intend on finding you again, once I've seen the other side. We'll have a lot to talk about, then." She turned to leave.
"There is one more thing..."
"Yes?"
"Should you survive, somehow... doing things the way you wish... you should know that the Celestial Ladder was never activated in the way you have done, or the way you would do it. If you pass through where it leads... it will change you."
She looked back, her voice quiet, "What will I become?"
"Something new."
Zohar said nothing, only looking up as the golden gimbaled rings moved into place to send her home.
