Well, today was a bit of an adventure! Today is the day I first tried my hand at windsurfing, or more aptly for today's low windspeeds, sailboarding. It's definitely a lot harder than it looks, and I had plenty of moments of frustration, but I also had some great moments when I got the wind just right, and it took me at a nice little clip out into the bay.
magnifelyn, Boone and I met up with
cuplan and
nancyblue down in Key Biscayne for windsurfing lessons at noon. Actually, I guess I was the only one who had lessons -
cuplan did the lesson last time, and
nancyblue chose to hang out with
magnifelyn and Boone in the shallows. We didn't have a lot of wind today, at least not for most of the time we were out there, and when we did have wind, it kept changing directions! Even so, I managed to find the wind more than a few times, and get some good runs in! It's really fun the farther out you go, but I wasn't feeling particularly brave. Or rather, I just didn't want to end up way downwind and lugging the damn board all the way up the rocky shore in my bare feet! I never did figure out how to turn around and go the opposite way, whether it was jibing or tacking. Oh well, there's plenty more to learn next time. :)
But now I am worn out and wrung out. Lugging that sail out of the water over and over again has taken its toll.
