Today was my first day back to my usual routine at home after my very excellent trip to NJ/NYC. The business part of the trip was pretty much a bust, but the social part of my trip was quite excellent. Many, many thanks to
avivasedai and
mary_wroth for spending some quality NYC time with me.
Now, for the first time ever in my journal,
The Friday Five!
- Are you named after anyone? If so, explain.
The story I grew up with was that my parents were convinced that I was going to be born a girl for some reason, i.e. God told them so, i.e. they really really wanted a girl. They felt so guilty that they felt disappointed when my true gender was revealed that they wanted to make me feel accepted so they gave me my dad's name as my middle name. I'm not sure I should have been told this story when I was that young.
- Do you have your children's names picked out already? If so, is there any significance?
Well, errr… yeah. Our son is almost three years old - we'd better have his name picked out! We couldn't feel right about any of the more common or traditional boys names, so we picked Boone because it means blessing, and he was and is. It's also nice that Boone is a family name, as we're related to Daniel Boone on my mom's side, and there's a fair number of Boones as first names or middle names in our ancestry.
- If you were born a member of the opposite sex what would your name have been?
Along with the above story about my middle name, I was repeatedly reminded of the name I would have been given had I been born a girl (also probably not something that should have been impressed on me at such a young age.) For the life of me, I cannot remember what it was. Oh wait, I just remembered: Kyra Beth.
- If you could re-name yourself what name would you pick and why?
None. I'm quite happy with my name.
- Are there any mispronunciations/typos that people do w/ your name constantly?
Oh, you betcha. People are always using two ells and one ess, so I am always tacking on the phrase, "One ell, two esses" whenever I have to give someone my name.
