Small world, or the thing one learns on LJ

Yesterday a book-signing aboard the Queen Mary with co-authors. Coincidentally, there was a "Psychic Fair," or some such gathering aboard. As we were signing the book purchase of one fair participant, Sally (or so her nametag proclaimed), she mentioned that she was doing a book on the history of Lily Dale, but did not suppose that any of us had heard of it.

Thanks to a dear LJ friend, I was able to say with complete confidence: "Oh yes, in upstate New York? The spiritualist community, yes?"

Sally beamed. "Yes, yes--have you been there?"

"No, never..."

"Well, it has a very rich history."

A very rich history indeed, I thought, but had the good manners to simply smile and say: "So I've heard."
