I told someone last year that i thought my ambition in life was to be a writer, and that i wanted to write a sci-fi/fantasy novel. But the thing is, even though i've talked about it, i haven't done any type of story writing in the past 2 years. How can one be a writer if they can't put pen to paper, or type into a word document? The answer is you can't. And i have to start somewhere, not just to try to publish a novel, but for myself, i need an outlet of some type. So i'm going to start slow, like with a list.
25 random things about myself.
1. I love Salsa or anything that can be construed as a sauce, mexican salsa, aji, tzatziki, sriracha, you name it, if i can slather it on my food, my food will be slathered.
2. I love to read, mostly fantasy sci-fi/fantasy novels, very rarely a news or journal article on a current event that i find important. And i am always reading. I have books loaded onto my ipod, i carry a book in my purse/backpack, and there is always an open chapter on my laptop. If i'm not reading, then the world is ending. I'd rather read than eat, or do anything else, and sometimes, i'm even reading and eating at he same time. I even go to the bathroom with something to read.
3. My favorite book is Stranger in a Strange Land by Robert Heinlein, even if all he writes about is sex, incest, and how society is crazy.
4. I was obsessed with Harry Potter. And i mean obsessed. Ask my relatives about my Harry Potter world and concept rants...sheesh i had it bad. I used to cheer every time i saw a movie billboard, i read all the books a dozen times over, read fanfiction, and wished i could go to Hogwarts, i mean what could be better than Magic? I even wanted to buy either a wand, or a snitch necklace...actually i still want that snitch necklace...but i digress. But then Sirius died, and i was kinda ok with that, but still bummed. And then books six and seven came out...and my obsession died a very sad death. How could you J.K Rowling, how could you?!
5. I'm 28, but i feel like i'm 18. No, i'm not mourning hitting my 30's soon, i just feel like i haven't actually lived my life yet, and that i still have alot of time ahead of me and things i want to do.
6. I'm unemployed. After my last job: Order entry/logistics/salesperson/temp-warehouse-manager/personal secretary/receptionist/whipping post for a toy company i refuse to get myself another office job. I don't want to have a mental breakdown and an office feels like a prison to me, of course this makes my choice of jobs very limited, so i'm having a very difficult time figuring out what to do with myself. Way to work my anthropology degree huh?
7. All i really want is a decent job, with ok money, ideally something where i can help people. I don't need an expensive car, or clothes or jewelry. I want to return every night to a little home, which will be small, but have a decent sized kitchen and bathroom, a balcony or a porch, and some corner as a reading nook, be it an awesome chair or a really cozy window seat. Said nook will be decorated with a power adapter for my ipod, a hanging mobile of some sort, and one of those mosquito net canopies, or some kind of beaded curtain thingy.
8. I've never actually had a boyfriend. I've dated, but i've never found someone i liked who liked me back. Actually, most guys i'm interested in don't return said affection. Bummer. But! I believe in love, and that i will eventually find someone that makes me happy. I just haven't met that person yet. I also don't think i'm ready to meet that person yet.
9. I believe everything in life happens for a reason, the good and the bad. Everything is a learning and growing experience, even that time i got an abscess on my tailbone in my sophmore year of college and couldn't walk, sleep, sit or standup straight for 3 days due to the pain.
10. I like action movies, especially the spy/science/historical ones, like Transformers (guh! luv!) or Aeon Flux. One of my favorite movies is Gladiator and the other is Hero. Lots of sword fighting, awesome action sequences, interesting scenery and music.
11. I like all kinds of music, and i mean everything. I listen to country, fav. song is still Whiskey Lullaby by Brad Paisley, Arabic music, all kinds of pop, rock, some r&b, salsa, merengue, bachata(la boda by Aventura, awesome!) even Hebrew music, ever heard of Ofra Haza? She's got some awesome pipes. But i think Damien Rice and Josh groban are my favorite singers.
12. I do a really mean Karaoke version of Ice Ice Baby. Yah...i surprised myself with that one too. My friends and i like to Karoake, and one night we where all putting in songs for each other, so when they called my name i was praying for something decent, and i got Ice Ice Baby, and surprised everyone including myself by actually knowing the song.
13. I love to sing. I sing in the shower, in the car, while i'm reading, and if i would Karaoke every weekend i would because bad renditions of awesome songs is what karaoke is all about.
14. I watch korean soap operas. (i'm central american) hehe.
15. I want a pet goldfish, but i don't have a table to put one on in my room. Also i'm afraid if i left for a day or two my mom would kill it, like she did my beta fish when i went to Guatemala that one time when i was 10. Poor Fishy.
16. I've learned four languages. Notice i didn't say i'm fluent, but i have a working knowledge of Spnish, french, and italian, and of course i know english.
17. I was extremely clumsy while i was in high school. I fell on the average of five times a week, and all of the people i was close to in high school have a story that goes something like this: I was talking to Steph on the way home/to lunch/to class, and when i looked over at her she was gone, but then i looked down. I still fall alot, but i'm down to once every couple of months now.
18. My favorite color is purple, but for some reason my bedroom is blue...and i don't really like blue.
19.I read Fanfiction, yes you read right, fanfiction. I know, i'm a nerd. So? My fandom is better than your fandom!
20. I can't draw a straight line.
21. The first time i wore contact lenses i almost cried. The same thing happened a few weeks after my lasik surgery. I had not seen the world so clearly in a long time, it was beautiful.
22. I've had training as a model. (no i didn't go to barbizon!) My mother decided one day that i walked like a retard, so she sent me and my sister to class to learn how to walk better. Modeling classed are not fun, especially since they played the same song over and over and over again everyday i had class. I don't know the name of that song, but i cringe everytime i hear it on the radio.
23. I have never been really badly injured, but my mom has, and lemme tell you, helping out s stubborn person with a fractured sholder sucks! I thank god every day it wasn't me.
24. I fell asleep in a museum once. In london, i can't tell you which one, I know it was next to Tottenham Court. It was either the Science or History museum. It was a rainy blah London day in the summer of 2003 and i feel asleep watching some movie they where showing in there. I was kinda embarrassed, but mostly just really tired. I don't know if it was the rain, or just something about london, but i really didn't see much of it while i was there, i was to sleep, or it was to rainy for me to want to go anywhere.
25. I'm arachnaphobic, but i think i made myself afraid of them. I'm also afraid of dogs...i have bite scars ok! Although when i grow up i want a chocolate lab :)
Whew...so that took awhile...and i wrote paragraphs instead of sentences. But a good start, i almost didn't want to stop once i started writing. So here's my mission: I want to post one thing to my livejournal everyday for the next 30 days starting today, May 6 ending on saturday June 5. It can be anything, a journal/diary entry, a song, a poem (if i don't write it i have to talk about it), some kind of list, a little fanfic snippet, as long as i am writing. If anyone's listening wish me luck :)
