I picked up this book just for kicks, I knew what it was going to tell me since the beginning. But I read a few lines and T.R. Reid's sense of humor sucked me in. He writes about Europe with a sense of wonder and child-like admiration.
I also wanted to know how an American was going to explain Europe to Americans.
Obviously, and with a good sense, he chose to explain his view with anecdotical and somewhat stereotypical evidence, but this is what makes this book enjoyable.
It also amuses me that the British and American editions have different subtitles and covers. The American one is so serious, while the British one (the one I own, btw) is sort of facetious.
Any European with a minimum knowledge of the current affairs would know the book content already but it's a good and enjoyable review/recap of the European Union history and current situation.
