Not a Bad Weekend, really.

It was Fathers’ Day weekend, and as the kids get older, it seems to get better.

Saturday night was dinner out with Understanding Spouse and the older kids (the younger ones had an evening play-date (with movie!) with some friends from daycare), at one of the mid-level italian restaurants in Campbell. Once Older Boychild was out the door (with belt, and shirt tucked-in, and belt actually buckled!), the conversation with him and Older Girlchild was really quite nice. The kids enjoyed their dinners and want me to make what they got (both had a ‘Champaign Sauce’ as part of the entrée - something I don’t routinely make at home - so I think that had something to do with it). The peppered Ahi steak I had was a bit over-cooked, but I was more into the company and it was a really rewarding time. My two young emo’s actually looked up and spoke with the adults at the table. Charming.

Sunday was Fathers’ Day proper. Understanding Spouse was a good sport; her own father died six years ago on Fathers’ Day, so she spent time on the phone with her sister. That was good for her.

And while U.S. is to attend The Mikado on Thursday (the two youngest wouldn’t make it through the entire show, so she stayed home with them), I went with the two older kids to see aimeric and roswtr in the Matinée performance. Happy to see learnteach in the audience, too.

Now, for those who don’t know The Mikado, If you want to know who they are/what it’s all about - well, it takes place in far-off exotic France, and there’s a bunch of people named Tinky-Winky, Dipsy, La-La, and Po. aimeric played Seal-Tail (I don’t know what that translates to in French), and roswtr plays Gertrude, wife of Claudius.

Apparently, the High Lord Mhoram has to cut off people’s heads with his Ginsu Leatherman because Alberich (played by a woman this time) wants to marry Tinky-Winky and will send the Rhinemaidens to school when he runs off as a sexual tomboy-phone.  I don't quite understand that, but it sounds very 'Continental'.  Also, we learn aimeric 's balls are elliptical.

The king of France shows up at the end (played - at various points during the show - by Jim Broadbent, Lou Ferrigno, and Tom Skerrit), and it is revealed that his upper half is Eloi and his lower-half is Morlock. (How very French of him), and he therefore gets stuck halfway through those paper-thin French walls.  ('Scuse me: thats' "Papier" thin)  So, he declares Tinky-Winky to be both A) his dead son and B)drop-dead sexy, and 3)Unintelligible.

There’s some music, too. Lots of period ‘Triangle’ playing (naturally), which beats the heck out of ‘cowbell’ (naturally). Apparently, Gilbert O’Sullivan wrote most of his shows Alone (Again; naturally), and wasn’t aware that ‘drivel’ lasts longer than, say, ‘class’.

There was more, but I eated it.

And that’s my 15-minute lunch-break recap of my weekend.
