California fire season

Aug 31, 2009 18:49

Despite recent comments by the Governator, the entire state of California is not on fire. Yes, there are some large fires buring in some populated areas, but frankly, California is a HUGE state. The largest one currently burning is the Station Fire in LA county, at 105,000 acres. Yes, it's a huge fire, but one square mile is 640 acres. 105,000 acres is 164 square miles. The entire state is 155,973
square miles. Here in Sacramento, it's business as usual unless you're a firefighter (and for them it's business as usual for August). There's not even noticable smoke in the air.
