Guinness is good for you

So, not as detailed a livejournal as I should be writing, but I don't have much time on this computer. I'm in a cafe in Temple Bar, Dublin, having arrived yesterday. Had an awesome time in London with my sister's friend and Cambridge with Ian and his family. It was a great preparation being with familiar people for the situation I am in right now. I got here yesterday after waking up at 3:15am and I had my hour-long orientation with the Irish travel agency I went through. I had breakfast in a pub, hearing "Dry Your Eyes" by The Streets, promptly followed by "Billie Jean" realizing that I definitely wasn't in the US anymore. After taking a nice long afternoon nap, I went to a pub in Temple Bar called Gogarty's, and promptly ordered my first pint of Guinness in Ireland. It was definitely strong, and tasted different from drinking it in the States. The pub was great with live traditional Irish music, and the young British guys who befriended me and whom I hung out with for a few hours (um, yeah, my heaven, basically). After an awesome introductory night to Dublin, I bought a phone today, did some more necessary shopping, and looked around for an apartment. Hopefully I will be meeting one of my friends from high school who is in Dublin for a few days. It'll be nice to see a friendly face, so I hope that can happen. I can't wait to hear about how everyone is doing at Oxy with classes, power outages, and lovely L.A. weather (!) and how others abroad have either made it to their destinations or are really coming into their stride (i.e. veterans like Kate). Will write again when I have more time and more chance.
