God, there is nothing like concert day when you have been following the Glam Nation tour all summer long on twitter and youtube and then it arrives AND IT IS FINALLY YOUR TURN!
I started out watching band members start to tweet their happiness to be back in California. I feel such pride for my region. I am a lefty hippy radical feminist peace activist mama earth worshipping kinda gal. i love my region and am proud of it. (back story: i don't usually watch TV and randomly turned it on one day and stumbled upon Adam singing WLL on American Idol Rock Week.) So I googled him and saw the pics of him at Burning Man. I go to Burning Man too so I was excited to see him on Idol. Like a "one of us" feeling to see him up there on the mainstream American stage. Like he wbs standing up for all the lefty California burning man types and bringing that /sharing that to all of America.
I got there early at 10 am to try to get up close to stage. so many great people in line. spent a lot of time at back barricade chatting to dancers and band members. Liz Anne Hill was sooooo great with fans. We had been serenading the buses with selections off of FYE and liz came and filmed it and twitpic'ed a pic of us singing. She loved it. she came and asked everyone their name, where we were from, talked abt the region as she went to college here. She was complimenting people on their hair, telling us all about their travels, just really being a sweetie. She was telling us how much they like the GA venues and appreciate it when the fans bring a long of energy. She asked us to really bring the energy for Robot Love (We did!)
I also saw Adam as he stepped off us his bus which was a treat for me to see him in person! i kinda flailed, like "OMFG that was really him/did that just happen" and jumped up and down and grabbed and hugged the person next to me i was so psyched. None of us recognized him at first, it was a few of us just standing there silent, then we all went OMG HI ADAM etc.etc. as he was walking through door into venue. The buses were parked by the venue's back door so we happened to be right beside his bus just based on where security had put up a barricade. I am a dork and took a pic of myself in front of his bus with a huge grin on my face.
Neat venue with Jerry Garcia murals on back door where they were loading the equipment. i liked seeing the behind the scenes views of what it takes to set up a show and all the cases of costumes/mikes/gear/instruments going in, etc. The back door loading doors open to the stage directly. Later on, it was as hot as a sauna in the pit, they opened the doors and the foggy cold air blew right in. Stage is right on sidewalk, just separated by the doors/wall of building. Neat to see buses/ sidewalk right there. Someone took a pic i'll try to post it. Neat view/hard to explain.
For the show i was 2 people from the very front. Allison Iraheta as sooo good . i was thrilled to see her- i love women who can sing the powerhouse vocals! She had originally been scheduled to not be on the tour in California, in fact the show before mine (Portland) was scheduled to be her last one, so i was thrilled to have her added. Orianthi's guitar playing was sooo good! Voodoo Chile just rocked! She also had come to chat with us which I had really appreciated. Awesome to see a women shredding on the guitar!!! ( The feminist in me...)
And then Adam. OMG it was a temple of love. A church of rock and roll. SF just totally brang the love. Full on screaming the lyrics to FYE intro for the entire song. Singing along with Adam the entire show, at a volume so strong i couldnt hear him at moments. Dancing with him to his awesome DTRH moves. (LOVE that Disco Rodeo one :-) Like flaily ecstatic dancing. Bouncing up and down in synchronicity with hundreds of people jammed hipbone to hipbone!
In WLL the electric guitar started and i felt this feeling like the spirit of rock and roll had just been summoned. This is a historical venue to many many great rock bands of the 60s and 70s playing here. Sooo good to be so close to see him belt that WLL out. I felt like it was right in my face even tho i had been pushed back several people to like 20 feet away. (spent first half of the concert only like 10 feet away from him omfgomfg so great.) Haha writing this now i am realizing it was a full circle moment, WLL was the song he was singing when i first saw him on idol, how i found out about him.
I had been dancing and jumping like a rave for the whole set but for WLL i got to totally just rock out in terms of dancing. It was such a great moment. So grateful they played that electric.
He was really looking at people in audience. He was really seeing the audience as a whole, as well at looking at people individually.
BEST MOMENT EVER In WLL he paused and the screams were deafening and he looked at us and mouthed "thank you" .
And to cap it all off when i got home at 3 and 4 am ppl on my twitter feed around the world were still flailing on twitter about it. ppl in asia, europe, ppl who attended were still flailing and east coast ppl were waking up. ppl who were there were high off of the show on adrenaline and love and couldnt sleep. lol so many of us were tweeting "it's 4 am and i cant sleep."
Those of us from SF area were soooooooooo damn fucking proud to have our city LOVE on him so well.
Going back up to see him tonight, cant stand for so many hours so will be roaming the venue, hopefully meeting people. Come and say hi!
