For Cody...

I could pull you forcefully through green fields
and find you unchanged at the end
though you have been there before
drenched in their slippery coolness and smelling of earth.
I could place one hand white as bleached bone
over my heart
and lay the other on the twisted skin of the trees
and prove to you the pulsing redundant nature of life.
I could whisper the words borne no more on sunlight
too old for their own brilliance
forgotten excepting their sanguine stirrings
deep in the center of all beings.
And tomorrow I would see you
rippling with heat and molten core
eyes fixed like a spike
in the direction of your soul.
