all the lolz

So, I'm totally one of those horrible sewers that brings food and drink into the craft room. And I've had enough oppses that you think I'd have learned my lesson by now. Such as the time I tipped over a full cup of coffee all over the sewing desk and into the open sided storage drawers next to it. But the only real casualty from that incident was the small pin cushion tomato that I store my hand sewing needles in. I finally picked up a replacement over the weekend (lime green tomato, ftw) and I moved the needles over, moving a few push pins back onto the board and sticking a few machine sewing needles back into their packages. But just before I threw the old, coffee-stained tomato away, I remembered how occasionally, I'd get pricked by a needle poking out of the bottom of the old tomato. So I decided to cut into it and rescue that poor, forgotten needle.

There were 25 needles hidden INSIDE my tomato! 25!

No wonder I kept buying more of the short needles. I made up the cost of the new pincushion in recovered sewing needles. I decided that I needed some sort of system for this not happening again, as the new tomato is just a smidge larger than the old. So I cut the sharpening strawberry off of the red tomato and anchored it to the green. Now all my tiny needles go in there. Or at least the ones that were left over after I tossed any bent ones.
