Fi's Reading List:

First Time for Everything by KeelieThompson1 - (4.6k, rated Mature, John/Sherlock)
Summary: Sherlock is a hooker and John is a client.
My thoughts: TOTALLY not what you're thinking. This fic actually worked very well. The characters still had the same personality and tendencies that we're accustomed to in canon. Only just enough was tweaked to make the situation completely plausible. Sherlock has an inner monologue is just spectacular. I find my mind consumed with wanting to know what happens next, and where they go from here - the mark of a very good story, indeed, as it's that kind of thinking that gets us all into fanfic in the first place.

Software Malfunction by tiger_in_the_flightdeck - (17k, rated Explicit, John/Sherlock)
Summary: Assigned as the head of Medical Research on the Baker, John Watson meets- and quickly falls in love with- Sherlock, a specially commissioned Companion android with a malfunction.
My thoughts: Whoa. The author took a premise that I couldn't possibly take seriously and turned it into a wonderful tale of love and loss that just took my breath away.

A Week is Just Seven Days (Isn't It?) by scifigrl47 - (40k, rated Teen)
Author's Summary: When John heads overseas for a week, Sherlock's forced to fend for himself. It goes about as well as anyone could have anticipated. Which is to say, very, very poorly. Don't worry, things'll be fine in just seven days.
My thoughts: Totally cheesy plot rapidly turned into a fic that was in turns epically hysterical and full of seat-gripping suspense. I was just blown away by how engaging this turned out to be. Absolutely loved it.

A Question of Identity by VolceVoice - (41k, rated Teen, pre-John/Sherlock)
Author's Summary: The observations of an amnesiac murder witness force John to rethink his assumptions about Sherlock, himself, and the definition of love. Meanwhile, a murderer is still on the loose . . . (Author's Note: This story is set several months after the Great Game and wings it from there.)
My thoughts: Yay for slow-burn, realization pre-slash. I honestly would have never given this fic a chance if it weren't for having seen a good review elsewhere. The OC is a major character and a huge portion of the plot, but once I got over that and just let her be the motivating force she was designed for, I was much more content. Interesting case with enough convoluted plot twists and adrenaline spikes to keep you on your toes.

Yes Yes Yes (series) by Basingstoke - (57k, rated E, Sherlock Holmes/Mary Morstan/John Watson)
Author's Summary: In which John learns to balance a kinky girlfriend, an asexual boyfriend, a ten-inch cock, his sister, the neighbours, his friends, and his blog. Some are more balanced than others. AND: In which John learns to balance a kinky girlfriend, an asexual boyfriend, a ten-inch cock, his sister, the neighbours, his friends, and his blog. Some are more balanced than others.
My thoughts: This is not the threesome fic you think it is. I have yet to have read a variation on Mary Morstan such as this. And really, there's a largely original female character who is intimately invovled in the plot and relationship between Sherlock and John and I DON'T hate her. That alone should be reason enough to read this. Despite the laundry list of kinks and explicit rating, if you're looking for an in-depth exploration of individual sexual scenes, this is not the fic for you. Actual sex acts are often glossed over, with only the plot-relevant notes highlighted. Might leave you a bit frustrated, just saying. But this is one of those stories where the sex really does forward the plot. An interesting take on Sherlock's sexuality and how he might approach the challenge of re-defining it. Same exact thing could be said for John, actually.
