Sherlock recs

I figured that since I'd been having a right and proper binge on Sherlock fanfic during my down time between jobs that perhaps I should start sharing some of the ones that have really blown me away.

Performance in a Leading Role Rated Mature
Author's Summary: Sherlock Holmes is an Oscar winner in the midst of a career slump. John Watson is an Everyman actor trapped in the rom-com ghetto. When they are cast as a gay couple in a new independent drama, will they surprise each other? Will their on-screen romance make its way into the real world?
My thoughs: I actually got to the end of this fic the first time and immediately scrolled back to the beginning to read it again it was that good. I have a soft spot for fic where the protagonists get to challenge the social norm and come out to the world whether or not it's ready for them. This fic has a ball-busting Irene as an agent that does everything she can to help her boys navigate the hell that is Hollywood for a closeted A-list couple.

Waking You Up (12k) Rated Teen.
Author's Summary: Written for a prompt over on sherlockbbc_fic, part of which is: "John dies and Sherlock blames himself, so much so that the guilt begins to affect his life. However, he keeps getting dreams of John talking to him and assuring him that he's not dead."
My thoughts: Holy hell! I couldn't tell wheather he was dreaming or dying or just plain going insane but this fic showed a wonderfully emotional side to Sherlock and really put my head through a blender but I'm so glad I read it. Tissue warning for sure, but totally worth it.

Three Seasons 24k, Rated Explicit, post-Reichenbach.
Author's Summary: none given
My Thoughts: Sherlock discussing the difference between emotional and physical attraction and his observations of why John is attracted to him. John has quite a bit of difficulty countering his arguments. My new head cannon.

The Fabric of Life 14k, Rated Explicit, post-Reichenbach. 19/20 chapters posted
Author's Summary: The fabric of life rearranges itself around the re-emergence of Sherlock.
My Thoughts: What had me hooked is the first time that John goes to his grief counseling group AFTER Sherlock has returned. Great job of addressing how complex the pain of Sherlock dying would have been for John and I love that it doesn't just let John hit him once and seemingly get over it. Also shows a remarkable level of intimacy between the two that goes beyond the physical and yet stays true to their personalities. Also takes time to address all the shit that went on with Sherlock while he was gone and how that's still affecting him.

Alone on the Water, rated G
Warnings: character death, angst
My Thoughts: Sherlock's dying. The grief in this is overpowering but very well written. If you're in need of a good cry and not interested in the post-Reichenbach then this will do it for you.

A Cure for Boredom NC-17
Author's Summary: They'd never talked about sex in the year they'd known each other. Well, that wasn't quite correct: Sherlock had never said a word about sex; John had bemoaned his personal dearth of it on many occasions.
My Thoughts: The author's taken porn-with-plot to a new level and was able to include a glutton's serving of super-hot sex while still managing a believeably gradual progression in the physical relationship between Sherlock and John. If I were to say "remember that blow job scene from Left My Heart" and you know what I'm talking about then you really have no excuse not to have read this fic, regardless of whether or not you've ever seen the show.

The Heart in the Whole Rated Mature
Author's Summary: Events after 'The Great Game' leave Sherlock dependent on his best friend and colleague. But John has a secret of his own...
My thoughts: a really believable conclusion to the first series which forces limitations upon Sherlock that he's not sure how to deal with. Lots of h/c with John doing his best to take care of a vulnerable Sherlock without treating him like he's not just as awesome as he's always been. Also, John is a bamf when someone threatens his Sherlock.
