It's finally 2010. How did that happen? The last time I checked, 2010 was that Special Year looming in the distance, the one I never had to worry about because it was so far away. And now it's finally here. Graduation Year.
Of course it's probably easy to imagine my terror at having to enter the "real world". Whatever "real" really means... For the past 17 years of my life (since I can't really remember before four), my time has been carefully planned. Whether it involved nap time, catching the bus, or a carefully structured class schedule, the agenda was predetermined. And the next step was always clear. Preschool to Elementary School to Intermediate to Middle School to High School to College. Each step gave me a little more freedom. In high school I had more options about what classes to take. I got to choose which college I wanted to go, even more freedom with my schedule. Each step there was a little bit more opportunity. But the general idea, the general direction, was always there.
Come May, it's no longer clear. I mean there are only a number of colleges to choose from. Sure there are hundreds or thousands, but it's so easy to narrow it down to a given area, a given major, a given size. In the real world there's just so many types of jobs out there, how do you pick where to apply? I mean sure I've narrowed it down in general (I know that I don't want to be a biologist, for example, or a lawyer), but even in the publishing world, there are actually a number of different jobs. And then what if no one hires me? Because despite the numerous amount of types of jobs, there's still not that many jobs actually open...
I can't believe there is only one more semester left.
Oh, yeah, so I went to see the ball drop in NYC this year. It was pretty cool. We got there at 5:30, and could only get as close at 49th and 7th!! But we still had a pretty good view. Yeah, it was cold and wet, but we had an umbrella and good company. I learned how to play euchre, which by the way is a very complicated game! I also saw the Ohio State Game at Tonic, which was/became an all out Ohio State bar... all the people there were decked out in scarlet, or gray, or a combination thereof, bearing "Ohio State" on their chests or simply the block O. So the atmosphere was quite intense, but everyone was happy when they won the Rose Bowl.
