Today I am working at my old work, Dio. Or Diocesan School for Girls, if we want to be proper about it (which I do not, of course). I was woken (which I never appreciate) by a phone call to see if I could work today (which I do appreciate). Since the funds are dwindling somewhat, after a fortnight without work (which I don’t object to) and consequently without pay (which I do object to), I was most happy to say ‘yes, please!’ The original plan was to do some job hunting, walk-and-flyer-deliver for swing with Michelle, give blood and do some reading. But I’ll take getting paid over that, thanks very much.
Being back at my old work for a day has been very interesting. I’ve been here less than three hours and already have felt like the beloved prodigal returning...it’s been nice to catch up with a few old fellow workers. It’s really nice to be greeted with such enthusiasm - don’t I feel loved!?! The best bit though, is the running into this year’s Year 7 girls who were my Year 6 girls in the Junior School last year when I was there (seems like a lifetime ago). The ones I run into have been really surprised and excited to see me and it’s totally cool that kids who haven’t seen you in half a year still remember your name (even the ones I didn’t know that well) and are pleased to see me.
Better be careful...I’m in real danger of having a very big head by the end of the day.
Can’t wait to see my Daisy - she was my favourite (you know, the favourite you’re not meant to have, but have anyway?) Year 6 kid last year, and out of 150 Year 7 girls, who happens to be on Messenger Duty in Period 4? Daisy! Yay! So I’ll see her in about 10 minutes, which will be really nice. Last year, Daisy’s mother told me that she cried and cried when she found out I was leaving (don’t worry Daisy, I was shedding a few tears myself).
I’m pretty hungry...breakfast did not occur, instead there was green tea, which was nice but not food! I will have to visit the Dio Cafeteria....and avoid the brownie, I remember how good-but-naughty it is...
I’m going to the NZ Ceroc Championships on Saturday with a few of the girls from church. Rev Sarah (Vicar Sez as I affectionately call her - behind her back, because I’m not quite brave enough to say it to her face yet...one has to give others plenty of time to get used to one’s warped sense of humour) is flying back from England that morning and then competing that day. Crazy! They have public dancing too, so I’m bringing my shoes and hoping there will something I can swing too :)
Catching up on work gossip is always interesting...people are always over-eager to talk here, although they try to pretend they’re not. Couple of scandals...one teacher dismissed for stealing laptops and phones, and another resigned on what appears to be a rather sour note.
Fun, fun, fun, fun, fun...
