A friend gave me the 'hard' word last night...well, she apologised if I felt like she'd given me the hard word, which I didn't, but she felt what she said needed to be said and that God was prompting her ('nagging' as she put it!) to tell me, so she did. I didn't feel 'told off', I actually appreciated her doing it, because I realised as she was talking that everything she said I needed to hear, so I coudl hardly resent her for it, or be anything other than appreciative.
She reminded me of all the things I said a few months ago about saving towards being able to study again (and actually get a degree this time), and how I was all excited because I had a plan and was going to make it happen. Now, this friend has only know me just-less-than 2 years, through swing, but she is a remarkably discerning, astute, caring Christian woman who I know cares about me a lot, and has, in the short time she's known me, realised (more quickly than most) that I have a tendancy to make great plans, get really excited about them, and then combine that with absolutely no follow-through - that I am possibly the most distractable person on the planet.
Anyhow, recently I have become distracted again from what is meant to be the Number 1 Priority Goal, which is to get a job (that pays a lot more than my current temporary one, which pays not-very-much-at-all), set up a really tight budget which will allow me to put aside for living expenses so I can afford to go back to studying in 2 years, and stick to it. However, lately I have been just crusing along, not really doing much about it, and getting distracted by other things, like the idea of going to swing events in Sydney, for example. Not things I should be doing at this point in time, when there are other things that should come first.
So...time to get hard on myself, do what needs to be done, start putting the plan in motion. It's all very well having these great ideas and plans and dreams, but I find that I always struggle to actually put them into action. Time to focus and get on with it! And probably have to make some sacrifices that I don't really want to make, but they're only temporary, and I need to remember it will be worth it in the end...it's all a bit exhausting just thinking about it.
So I'm back to writing lists...lists of exactly what it is I'm wanting to work towards, the things I know I'm meant to do, and what's most important...and then I just have to figure out the best way to go about making those things happen...can't let it stop at the planning stage though...have to actually take action.....rah.
