drabble fic: "birthday cake"

A/N: Hey, it's my first Ban/Ginji fic! ^^ As requested by fairymage, written for this challenge drabble meme.

It was the least possible thing Ginji would have expected from his partner, for Ban never believed in grand gestures -- or any kind of gesture, for that matter. And Ginji had to blink twice -- thrice -- no, *ten* times, before rubbing his eyes and pinching his cheeks just to make sure he wasn’t dreaming at all.
“Ban-chan…” In spite of it, he still couldn’t quite believe it.
“Heh. I know it's late and it’s not much, but at least that was *paid* for,” Ban was still behind the counter, wearing Natsumi’s pink, frilly apron and a smug grin on his face, feeling very proud of himself indeed.
A large-size pizza -- whole, mind! -- was sitting right in front of Ginji, with all his favorite toppings! All for him, just for him. That wasn’t the best part though, because it if it were, the pizza would have probably vanished in about five minutes. But it didn’t, it was still there, and Ginji was still staring at it in mild awe for five minutes, not quite sure if he should eat it.
For on top of the pizza, arranged in a colorful soirée, M&M’s formed the sweetest message Ban could’ve probably gotten out of his system: “HAPPY BIRTHDAY GINJI”
“--Well? Aren’t you going to eat it?!” Ban was now sporting an uncomfortable scowl and a light color on his cheeks. Clearly, gestures like these were beyond him. “I didn’t spend half a day making that just so you can-OMMPHH!”
At least what happened next wasn’t the least possible reaction Ban would have expected from his partner. Because the moment Ginji threw himself at him, blabbing his thanks, Ban surprised himself by actually returning the embrace.
