meme - 33 questions not aimed at teens (for once)

1. Do you prefer solicitors and service staff to address you by first name or by title+last (e.g. "Ms. Smith", "Dr. Adams", etc.)?
weirdly enough, it bothers me when i'm addressed by my first name and haven't introduced myself. i prefer title+last. if it's someone i've talked to more than once, first name is fine. i have no idea why i don't like it - not particularly egalitarian of me. for the record, i'd feel uncomfortable using their first names in the same situation.

2. How many careers have you had?
lol i don't think i've started yet.

3. How many jobs? How many employers?
oh good grief. somewhere in the realm of twenty employers and close to thirty separate jobs, i'd imagine.

4. What was the best employer you worked for?
the current one, i'd say, although there've been a few good ones. the best ones are always with the government or government contractors, for some reason.

5. What was your favorite job?
ah, good. different question. i like the one i have now - the photography bit is a lot of fun. there's been a lot to like about a lot of the jobs i've had. for sheer fun value, though, i still can't beat the record shop i worked at when i was 20. i actually went and hung out at work when i was off work.

6. How many companies, businesses or incorporated organizations have you founded?
i briefly had my own web design business. i haven't pursued it because frankly, i suck. technically, i still have the business, which is to say i still have a state tax id.

7. Did you grow up to be what you wanted to be when you were 5? When you were 10? When you were 15? When you were 20?
oh, none of the above, but it's fun to think about.
5: i wanted to be either a detective or a ballerina.
10: i wanted to be a paleoanthropologist (i'd just read Lucy, by Donald Johanssen). the next year i read A Brief History of Time and switched to astrophysics.
15: i was starting to think about wanting to act. teaching had crossed my mind as well.
20. was working at aforementioned record shop. i thought a lot about staying in the field and someday opening my own store. can't say that thought hasn't occurred to me since then.

8. Have you published any books or academic papers? How many?
published??? no.

9. Do you hold any patents? How many?
pssh.

10. Are you licensed or certified to practice a profession(s)? If so, what?
not so much.

11. Ever served in the military? What branch and how long?
served in? no. worked for? yes, air force, currently somewhere around the two-year mark.

12. What's the largest number of employees you have ever managed at a time?
um. i was a supervisor for a semester in the kitchen where i worked at smith. we might have had twenty girls working there. i wasn't very good at it, though i did have to fire someone.

13. How many countries have you lived in?
just this one.

14. How many times have you been married?
the one time will about do it.

15. How many kids do you have? How many grandkids?
zero and zero, forever and ever amen.

16. Whom do you observe Thanksgiving with?
depends on where i'm living. this year it'll be at my mom's house, i think. normally i'm living too far away and it's with friends.

17. How many parents have you had?
two.

18. How many of your parents are still alive? How close are/were you to them?
both are still alive. i'm close to them both in different ways, but perhaps closer to my dad.

19. What's one way you were surprised to find out you turned out like one of your parents?
i find my laughter sounding more and more like my mom's.

20. What's one way you expected to turn out like your parent(s) and were surprised not to?
i'll have to give that one some more thought.

21. Do you own or rent your home? If the former, how many years on your mortgage, if any?
i rent.

22. Do you have roommates (i.e. non-family adults living with you)? If not, how long has it been since you had roommates?
i've never technically had roommates, not even when i was at smith. (i had a single both years.) i've always lived with family or my spouse.

23. Have you ever sat on a jury?
nope. i got a postcard once from massachusetts but i'd long since moved out of state.

24. Have you ever run for office? Held office?
neither one.

25. Are you a member of a political party? Do you volunteer with it? Do you donate money to it?
i think i'm registered with the democrats somehow, but i'm not entirely sure. no way do i donate money.

26. What's the nicest restaurant you've been to in the past year?
we recently went to ruth's chris steakhouse, which was a super-nice meal. we even dressed up!

27. What's the nicest item of furniture you've bought? (Gifts don't count!)
our bed (yay for outlet stores).

28. What kitchen appliance are you most happy you bought? (Gifts don't count!)
seeing as how we haven't had to buy many kitchen appliances yet, i'll go with the kitchenaid mixer that we got at deep discount through the kitchenaid experience store after touring the factory.

29. Do you have a preferred airline? How many frequent flyer miles do you have?
i'd be surprised if i have more than 5000 miles in any one program, but i may have close to 10,000 altogether. my favorite airline is continental because they have the best snacks. hey, i have my priorities.

30. Where do you like to go to vacation?
depends on where i'm living at any given moment. we do a lot of weekend getaways. given the choice of anywhere, i'd go back to colorado.

31. Women: Do you wear skirts or trousers on the job?
i wear whatever's clean and sometimes whatever passes the sniff test if i haven't done laundry in a while. which is to say, either one works. though i don't wear skirts as often, since i shave my legs maybe six times a year, when i get a wild hair (no pun intended).

32. Men: Do you currently have facial hair?
n/a

33. Do you have grey hair yet? If so, do you try to hide it?
no. i think my sweetie may have found a single gray hair once.
