just spent the last couple of days with friends on padre island. had a great time - very relaxing. like an actual spring break, except without the hordes of drunken college kids. (they all turned off at the exit for port aransas.) hung out, watched movies, got ice cream, that kind of thing. finished a scrapbook i'd started months ago, which was a relief. now i'm raring to get started on the next one.
we went to the beach the second day. my one friend is into off-roading, and he found a doubletrack just wide enough for one vehicle that led to a secluded bit of muddy beach. the water was full of jellyfish but bathwater-warm. we were the only people out there. six of us, wading around (or hanging out on the beach a lot, in my case, since i wasn't too sure about those jellyfish), playing fetch with the dogs, enjoying the sun and the gentle wind. the sand tried to suction off our flip-flops with each step. i found a crab scuttling along the sand sideways. he bumped into the thick tangle of seaweed and grass once, twice, searching vainly for his home, and finally found it and slipped in silently.
i wished i'd brought the camera, but i'm glad now that i didn't. i would have forgotten to have fun.
man i got burned. my shoulders hurt to touch right now. but i'm coping now by hanging out with my kitties and eating copious amounts of mint milanos.
