Insurance for the unwary

Just a quick note for those who have never thought about it.... My spare set of car keys has not reappeared during the tidy-up after the burglary. Home insurance people say that car keys are (get this!) a "motor vehicle accessory" and are therefore not covered on the buildings and contents insurance. Motor insurance people say that my fully comprehensive policy does not cover theft of the keys and therefore will not cover replacement of the locks on the car doors and boot. Who thinks up this stuff?

In other news, I have work this season for Opera North after all. Yay! The prospect of six weeks without when I have insurance excesses to pay was a worrying one.

And the cat has finally been declared infection and urinary-crystal free. Think that was the best Christmas present.

PS I got the motor insurance people to set up a claim and give me a claim reference number in case the car actually does disappear and is subsequently recovered without signs of break-in....
