“Are we gonna wait for her?” David asked and tossed the case file on the desk.
“That’s her third bathroom trip in the last hour.”

“Maybe she’s coming down with something.” Don shrugged. “Granger’s chatting
up that witness go grab him and check out that second address. We got a
neighbour saying they moved some stuff out last week, they’re probably not
planning to come back.”
“Okay. What are you gonna do with her?”
“I’ll let her puke her little heart out.” Don chuckled. “Not literally….”

--------------------------

Half an hour later Megan was leaning against the table in the break room. Don
had told her to go home, but pride was too big of a wall to climb over. She
heard somebody opening the door and a hand placed a take-out cup in front of her.

“How are you feeling? Charlie asked and sat down next to her.
“Like my body’s about to go on strike and majority of it tries to leave me
through vomiting. What’s that?”
“Peppermint tea. It should be really helpful with morning sickness.” Charlie
gave her a calming smile. “That’s what it is, isn’t it?”

“How did you know?” Megan took a careful sip from the cup.
“When Karen was expecting Helen she had the whole nine yards of aches. From
vomiting to mood swings. And from what I’ve heard you’ve had both of them.”

“What about the others?”
“I heard them talking and Don said it’s probably a flu, so they seem to be
in the dark.”
“Don’t…. don’t tell them.”
“How far along is it?”
“About a month.”
“Are you gonna keep it?”
Megan looked shocked. She didn’t say anything.
“Why do you ask that?” She stared at the teacup.
“Well… you’re obviously not happy about it. Is it about Matthew?”
“Partly.”
“What else?”
“The timing. I do want kids…”
“But not now.”
“Exactly. And not with him.”
“Why not?”
“Charlie, that guy a practically a child himself! Our whole thing was about
sex, not feelings.”
“Didn’t you use….?”
“Of course we used a condom. Apparently it wasn’t enough.”
“Did you know that the risk of-”
“Charlie, I don’t want to hear about statistics.”
“Okay. Have you told him about it?”
“Not yet. I don’t even know what I’m doing. And it’s still early. You never
know what might happen.”

--------------------------

Don got into his car and pulled out his ringing cell phone. He checked the
caller ID. Martin.

“Hey.”
“Hey. I just wanted to know about your schedule. Are you still coming around six?”
“Yeah, you want me to bring something?”
“No, just yourself.”
“Where are we going?”
“We’re not going, we’re staying. I’m going to cook for us.”
“You don’t need to-”
“I do. Every time it’s your turn to cook, we end up eating take-out.”
“I don’t do that every time!”
“You do.”
“Fine, but I do it to keep you safe. My cooking can be lethal…” Don chuckled.
“I know. Remember the time you managed the incinerate bacon and eggs?”
“Do you have to bring that up every time we talk about cooking?”
“Yeah, that image is imprinted to my brain.”
“Mine too….” Don almost shuddered at the mental image. “I could pick up some
dessert on the way.”
“Sounds good. Something with chocolate.” Martin agreed. “And Don….”
“Yeah?”
“We need to talk about something serious.”
“Is it good or bad?”
“Good. I think. We’ll talk about it when you get here.”

--------------------------

“I think we’re done for today-” Don paused when he got to his desk. “Where’s
Megan?”
“Charlie persuaded her to go home and get some rest.” David informed. “He
said he’s almost done with those calculations.”

A small thud made them turn around. It came from the conference room where
Charlie was working. Don marched to the glass door and pulled it open.

A large pile of case files was all over the floor and Colby was holding Charlie.
The mathematician looked like he couldn’t breathe. He was clutching his phone
in his hand.

“Chuck, you okay?”
Colby carefully placed Charlie on a chair, but he jumped up right away.

“Don, it was… it`s…”
“Chuck, calm down. What is it?”
Charlie pulled a deep breath.
“Hospital. We need to go there right now.”
