“I mean… it’s just plain cold.” Don slurred and leaned against the bar counter. Most
of them had gone home, and only Flack and Hawkes were still sitting on their high
bar chairs. Hawkes had tried to persuade his companion to head home, but without
any response. Flack didn’t usually drink more than few beers, but apparently this
night was an exception to that rule. As the evening had progressed Flack had become
increasingly moody and unusually sentimental.

“What’s cold?”
“We’re here. All of us get together and then it’s all gone. Everyone goes somewhere
and we’re here alone. We’re here alone and if I go home I’m alone. Home alone,
get it?” Flack bursted out in giggles. “So anyway… my point is…What’s the point?”
“I have no idea what you mean.”

“Did I ever tell you I’ve never lived with anyone after I moved out of my parent’s place? It’s always just me. I go home and that’s it.” Flack let out a deep sigh. “What about you? Have you ever lived with anyone?”

“Yeah, when I was in med school. For about six months and than we started fighting
so much that we broke up.”
“But was it nice? Coming home when you know there’s somebody else there?”
“It was nice. Sometimes nerve-wracking, but nice.”
“I wanna try that…”

“Okay, you can try that some other time, but not now. I think it’s time to go. I’ll
take you back to your place.”
“Are you gonna tuck me in?”

“Probably not. We’ll take a cab, and I’ll drop you off at your place.”

---------------------------------------------------

Hawkes`s plan turned out to be more complicated than he had thought. Mainly
because drowsy Don was dozing against his shoulder and refused to let go.
The cab driver looked at them expectantly.

“Are you gonna leave him here or what?”
Hawkes pondered his options and finally made a decision. “Looks like I’m
staying here too. How much do I owe you?”

He paid for the ride and half carried Flack out of the cab. Luckily, the elevator of
the apartment building was having one of it’s good days. He left Flack leaning
against the wall next to the apartment door.

“Okay, final stretch. Where do you keep your keys?”
“Pocket.” Don groaned sleepily.
“Which pocket? Or do you want me to do a strip search?”

Don started giggling. “Coat pocket. But we can do strip searches anyway
if you want.”

“Right…” Hawkes pulled the keys out of the pocket and opened the door.
“Come on, get in.”

Flack staggered into the apartment, pulling Hawkes in with him. Finally he
slumped down on his bed, still clutching the hem of the other man’s shirt.
“Go to sleep.” Hawkes pulled off Don’s coat and his shoes.
“Not alone.” Don slurred. “Don’t go.”
“Well, the cab’s gone anyway. I’ll claim your couch.”
“No, here.” Don murmured like a stubborn little kid. “Stay here.”
“Will you shut up and go to sleep if I do?”
“I promise…” Don declared with a small giggle.

“Okay, make room.” Hawkes kicked off his shoes and shrugged of his coat.
He lowered himself carefully on the other side of the bed. As soon as he set
his head on the pillow, a pair of arms grabbed him like a human octopus. Don
pulled him close, his chest against the other man’s back, and buried his face
against his neck.

When Hawkes snapped away from his sleep at four in the morning, he knew
something had changed. He was still laying down, Don was still pressing
against his back. Then he realized what it was. Don’s hand was circling
around his abdomen, and then slipped under his shirt.

Hawkes held his breath. The hand was moving gently against his skin, and
then found the ticklish spot just below his bellybutton. He was seriously starting
to panic, especially since the careful touch was having an energizing effect on
his lower regions.

He was about to jump up when the second surprise came. Lips. Against his
neck. Don’s lips, pressing small kisses along the back of his neck.

“Are you going somewhere, Doc?”
“You’re awake?”
“You keep tossing and turning, of course I’m awake.” Don’s lips tickled his ear.
The hand under his shirt continued it’s unhurried movements.
“I’m not that bad.”
“You are.” Don paused. “You can leave. If you want to.”
“Do you want me to leave?”

“All things considered, that’s a pretty numb question.”
“Yeah, I guess… did you mean what you said before?”
“What?”
“That thing about being home alone. Is that what this is about?”
“That’s the other part.”
“What’s the first part?”
“You. Now go back to sleep.” Don reached his neck to give Hawkes a small kiss.
He pulled the other man closer and went right back to sleep.

---------------------------------------------------

When Hawkes woke up the second time the setting was similar to the last one.
“Finally, I though you were planning to sleep the whole day.”

He turned around to look at Don who was laying next to him. He had obviously
been awake for some time. He was dressed in a t-shirt and jeans, and a
tempting smell of coffee was wafting from the kitchen.

“My day off, I can sleep if I want to.” Hawkes murmured and rubbed his eyes.
“And how come you`re so cheerfull? I thought you`d have a huge hangover.”
“I wasn’t that drunk.”
“Weren’t you?”
“Maybe I just wanted some company.” Don grinned.

“Some company? Should I be insulted?” Hawkes tried not to chuckle.
“Some very specific company. And I meant what I said. You can leave if you want.”
“Don’t you think I would have already left, if I wanted to leave?” Hawkes hesitated
for a moment, but then decided to take the initiative. He pulled Don closer and
kissed him.

“I want coffee, we can come back to this after that.” Hawkes smirked.
“Okay, but can I say something without spoiling the mood?”
“What?”
“You got a really bad morning breath.”
Hawkes grabbed the pillow and tackled Don to the mattress.

“What about coffee?”
“I changed my mind.” Hawkes laughed. “You got to grope me all night, it’s my
turn. And you’re gonna pay for that morning breath comment…” He pressed
Don on his back and leaned down to kiss him.
