Criminal Minds Main List Chapter 1/3 Chapter 2/3 Interlude “That was really an anticlimax.” Morgan stated as he closed the door after their guests had left. “I got just one night as a love slave of a pretty heir.”
“Morgan….” Reid sighed and ran his fingers through his hair. “You do understand why I did this, don’t you?”
“Yeah. And it would have been weird if you had kept a link with your ex like that.”
“I still have a link with Chad, we’re friends. But this way we both benefit from this whole thing.” He clamped his palm over his mouth and looked slightly nauseous. “I didn’t mean it the way it sounded. It’s horrible when someone dies, and it’s awful for Chad and Cain and Maris, but….”
“But what?”
“This has nothing to do with sorrow, her whole purpose was to get her way, even after her death. Maybe…maybe this will help the recovery process. Loosing a parent is hard enough without the additional baggage. No matter how you lost the parent.”
“I know.” Morgan agreed. “And you did the right thing.”
“I hope so. Hopefully it gives Hotch some kind of…. sense of security.”
“Security?”
“It can’t be easy to ignore your partners history when it’s shoved down your throat.”
“He knows it didn’t have anything to do with you or Chad or him. The old crow just wanted to have the last word.”
----------------------------------------
“Where have you been?” Hotch asked over his coffee mug. “I woke up and you were gone.”
“Cain called me, we settled some stuff.”
“About last night?”
“Yeah. Spencer called him last night and we all met this morning.”
“I see.” Hotch took a sip from his mug and waited. “Are you going to tell me?”
“Well, we’ll have to wait till the legal issues from the stock transferring is done, but we agreed on what we’re gonna do. Mom’s monetary assets were divided with all us kids.”
“You mean-”
“We pooled together that money and we will buy the stocks she left for Spencer.”
“I have to ask…. None of you is involved with the company and you three already have ninety percent of all stocks. Why do you want all of it?”
“Because it’s ours. Our name in the buildings, our name in the logo, we grew up seeing it being built year after year, it’s our heritance. You know what I mean?”
“I think so.”
“And he’ll have some use for extra money. He’s gonna set up a trust to handle the payments for his mom’s treatment. It will cover her expenses for the rest of her life.”
“Even if he’s not here to take care of it.” Hotch finished. “I know how he feels about that.”
“Yeah. And he’ll have some money left over after that, it’s good to have little something saved for a rainy day.”
“So it’s all settled. That’s good.”
“That was just one part of it.” Chad snatched the mug from Hotch and placed it on the kitchen counter. “It still bothers you.”
“No.”
“Try that face in the poker table, but you can’t fool me.”
“Maybe it bothers me, but I’ll get over it.”
“There’s nothing to get over. She didn’t like you and she liked Spencer. That happens, some people like you and some people like some other people. That doesn’t matter.”
“I know.”
“When we’re talking about my life, the only one whose likings you should worry about is me, and you have nothing to worry about in that area.”
“Maybe it’s my fate.” Hotch gave him a small smile. “Hailey’s parents didn’t like me either.”
“Let’s hope they’ll hate her fiancé even more and they`ll leave everything to you when they kick the bucket.”
“That was pretty twisted even for dark humour.”
“That wasn’t dark humour, that was bad humour. And sometimes a little bit of bad humour can make things a lot easier.” Chad pressed Hotch against the cupboard and leaned to push their bodies together. “Right now…. Bad humour and some more sleep could do wonders.”
“I don’t know jokes bad enough for this.” Hotch relaxed and let his hands wander over Chad’s back. “You got any bad ones?”
“Well….. Actually I do. You know what book I got on my nightstand?”
“No.”
“The Final Exit.”
“That was bad….”
“And it wasn’t even a joke.”
----------------------------------------
“Thanks. I’ll call you later when I hear from the state executors. Bye.” Reid hung up and pushed the phone into his pocket. “It’s all set, a lawyer I know will handle the arrangements.”
“Pretty Boy?”
“What?”
“If I ask you a question, will you answer me truthfully?”
“I’ll answer truthfully, unless I have reasons to do otherwise.”
“That’s like zero plus one minus one.”
“Just ask your question.” Reid grinned.
“That place in Vegas where you mom’s being treated….”
“What about it?”
“I know that place is not exactly cheap. You didn’t pay for her stay alone, but still….”
“Where are you going with this?”
“You said your mom would be set for life, and that makes a lot of sanitarium bills.”
“Morgan-”
“And you said you’ll have something left over after that.”
“What are you asking?”
“Exactly how much are they paying for those stocks?”
“I’m not going to tell you.” Reid laughed.
“Why not?”
“Because you don’t need to know.”
“And if your ten percent was worth that much, how much are Chad and Cain’s cuts worth?”
“Morgan, that’s none of your business.” Reid laughed. "And I`m not gonna tell you."
“Yeah, but it’s hot.”
“Hot?”
“A pretty heir and his incredibly hunky toy boy….. It’s definitely hot. Just ask Garcia.”
