"Your still here? I thought everyone had left already." Don commented and slammed
a tall stack of files to the table.
"I`m still going through the eye witness accounts. Rough meeting?" Megan asked
and sipped the last of her now cold coffee.
Don sat down and sighed. "The usual. We went through all the cases we have
worked on during the last three months. At least it could have been a lot worse."
"Worse how?"
"We`ve had a solving rate of over 85 percent. Did you hear what happened to
Dunnlop, when her team went under 50 percent?"
Megan grinned. " I think the whole building has heard about it by now. She was
crying so hard after the meeting, they had to send her home. And think about it
this way. You have a great team to work with, that`s something Dunnlop didn`t
have. Not to mention Charlie. By the way, have you heard from him?"
"Yeah, two days ago. They should be done by the end of the week."
"Good, because I think we will need him."
"Eyewitness accounts that good?"
"At least there`s some versatility to keep things interesting. Based on these accounts
the guy was either tall, short, thin or heavy. And only two witnesses thought he was a
woman."
"Sounds promising." Don murmured and started digging his pocket`s for his cell
phone, that was currently ringing. "Eppes."
"Donny? I tried to call you an hour ago, but your phone was off. Are you coming
to dinner?"
"Tonight? Dad, I`m still at the office, with Megan. I don`t know if I can-"
"Son, Charlie has been away for almost two weeks. I expect you here with us in one
hour, and bring Megan too. Colby`s already on his way."
"I have no idea what your talking about. What about Charlie?"
"Didn`t you get my message? When I couldn`t get through to you I left a message with
some receptionist, whatever her name was. Charlie got back today."
"He did?"
"Yes, and we are having dinner in... 56 minutes. We`ll see you two then." Alan cut the
call before Don had a chance to respond.
"I think we can both leave now. Charlie`s home and Dad wants both of us to go for
dinner. If we don`t there will be repercussions."
"Repercussions for you maybe, but not for me. Alan`s a gentleman." Megan smirked.
"Whatever, pack up your stuff, we`re going."
------------------------------------------------------------------------
"We`re here!" Don yelled from the door. "Where`s Chuck?"
Alan came from the dining area. "He`s unpacking his things in the garage. And don`t
call him that. Colby came some time ago, he`s there too."
"I`ll go and say Hi."Don shrugged his coat off and turned to leave.
"You better not." Alan chuckled.
"Why not?"
"I told you. Colby`s there, and they haven`t seen each other for two weeks.
Give them some privacy."
"I`m not gonna embarrass them, I`ll just say Hello, and leave." Don left and both Alan
and Megan shook their heads.
"Why do I bother..." Alan murmured. "And why does a smart boy like Donny always
make the same mistakes. You would think he would have learned his lessons by now."
"I know what you mean." Megan giggled. "We have had a lot of fun in the office when
Charlie`s there for a case, you really should see it. Have you seen that red faced blank
stare?"
"I have. I remember he had that same look on his face when he was six and caught me
and his mother in bed one night. And that shaky white look.."
"Oh yeah... that one.. But my favorite is probably-" Megan paused and just stared at
the door. Alan turned around to see what she was looking at.
"Don, are you-" Alan took a better look at him. Then he turned to Megan. "Is that the
grey and sniffing look or the green one...?"
"I think that`s a whole new variety. Don, you better sit down." She guided Don down
to the couch and sat down. "Don, are you okay?"
Don cleared his throat and tapped his fingers on his knees. "I can`t believe I always
end up in these situations..." He took the glass of water Alan was offering and took
a long sip. "I.. I.. I think I just blew a fuse."
"What do you mean?"
"I mean... I don`t think I can ever be shocked over anything ever again. I`ve reached
my limit."
"Don, are you okay?" Charlie called from the door, while Colby tried to hide behind
him. Both men were blushing like two boiled grabs and trying to fix their messed
clothes.
"Yeah, I think I am. For the first time I actually understand the term `shock therapy`.
I feel kinda uplifted."
"You do? Charlie looked surprised.
"Yeah." Don bursted out in laughter. "Sounds twisted, but I think I needed that."
"Good boy." Alan deadpanned. "Now everyone to the table, we were supposed to eat
ten minutes ago."
"Sounds good." Charlie commented and took a seat in the table. "They don`t serve
any lunch on military flights. There wasn`t even a movie."
"Poor you." Don commented. "By the way... Colby?"
"What?"
"Do you need a pillow to sit on?"
Colby started turning red again and Charlie started laughing. "Did you just make a
joke about this?"
"I meant it as a joke, but judging by the look on his face, I hit pretty close to the truth."
"And another one..." Charlie smirked. "You`re making some really good progress."
