Lifestyle Choices Don waited for the bartender to finish serving another customer. He straightened his back and tried to look unnoticeable.
“What can I get you?” The bartender turned to him.
“Two beers, whatever you got on the tap.”
“Okay.” He turner to get two pints. “First time here?”
“Yeah.”
“Alone?”
“No, I got company but he saw somebody he knew when we came in.” Don pointed to the door where Martin was talking with a man Don had never met.
“He knows Bryan?”
“Apparently. Friend of yours?”
“No, my boss. He owns the club.” The bartender placed two full pints on the counter.
“Really? That explains a lot….”
“Like what?”
“Like why we got in past the queue.”
“Don’t worry, most of those people don’t even get in.” Bartender grinned. “Bryan’s really strict about his customers. No manorectic bleach blonds with sequin tops and leather pants. He want to keep this place classy.”
“I gotta admit, this wasn’t exactly what I expected.”
“Don?” A surprised voice called from the other side of the bar counter. A tall blond walked closer with a wide grin on her face. “It is you!”
The bartender took few steps back to give them some privacy.
“Amanda? I haven’t seen you since….. since….”
“Since high school.” She finished. “I thought you moved away from L.A.”
“I did, but I came back.”
“Are you still playing baseball?”
“No, I joined the FBI.”
“Seriously?”
“Yeah. Why is that so hard to believe?”
“I just didn’t think you were the type. Anyway, we’re here for Mary’s bachelorette party.” She pointed to the corned table full of women. “Remember her?”
Don squinted to see the women. “No…. Should I?”
“You two had that two week thing during senior year.”
“We did?”
“You did.”
“Well…. Tell her congratulations from me. Is the groom somebody I know too?”
“There’s no groom, there’s two brides. I would have thought this place would have tipped you off.”
“So she’s…..?”
“Yep. What about you? Anyone special in your life?”
“Yeah. Over there.” He pointed to the door where Martin was still talking to his buddy.”
“Which one?”
“The left one.”
“He’s hot. And that kinda explained why it didn’t work between us. Or between you and Mary. Or between you and half the female student in our school…..”
“Hey!”
“Just teasing. “She grinned. “How long have you been together?”
“Almost two years.”
“Wow…. Things really have changed. You broke up with me after four weeks because Susie let you grope her in the backseat of your mom’s car.”
“You got a really good memory.”
“Don’t worry, I don’t hold grudges. I`m happy with the way my life turned out.”
“Did you get those two point three kids you wanted?”
“No, just two so far. I carried the first one, Cissy, and Vicky’s gonna pop out the next one three months from now.”
“Vicky?”
“Over there.”
Don looked at the corner table. A pretty woman with a massive belly gave them a little wave.
“Should I remember her too?”
“You mean did you make her a lesbian too?” Amanda smirked. “No, she grew up in Dallas.”
“Hello.” Martin tapped Amada on the shoulder. “Is this man bothering you?”
“No.” She giggled.
“Are you sure? I don’t mind taking him away and disciplining him.”
“I’m sure you don’t mind, but there’s no need for that. Amanda, I went to high school with Don.”
“High School sweethearts?”
“No, that would need more than few weeks. Anyway, I need to get back there. You two have fun.”
She bounced back to the corner table.
“We go to a gay bar and ran into you old flame?” Martin chuckled.
“Yeah, she’s here with her pregnant girlfriend to join a bachelorette party for another one of my ex`s, who’s marrying a woman. Or having a ceremony, or whatever they’re called.”
“Two of your ex`s are both dating women? What exactly did you do with them?”
“Nothing!”
“Maybe that’s why….”
“Next topic.” Don offered him the other pint. “This place is half empty, is it always like this?”
“We came little early. I haven’t been here before, but Bryan said this it’s usually full after nine. Meanwhile…. there’s room on the dance floor.”
“You got the moves?”
“You really should know that by now.”
“Yeah.” Don chuckled and took a long gulp from his pint.
“So what do you think?”
“About what?”
“Your first time in a gay club.”
“Honestly….. I kinda forgot that.”
“Told you. Just like being in a regular club. Well…. until the place is full.”
“What do you mean?”
“When this place is full of horny guys, you’ll be a hot commodity.”
Don almost choked on his beer.
“Don’t worry, I’ll protect you.”
“So…. what now? Dance floor?”
“Yep.”
