They made him years ago, in Suna.

This was before he made himself.

I love the opening lines for this fic. I couldn't say why exactly, but they guaranteed my instant engagement in the fic, and are so very fitting for Sasori's character. (And in the literal sense, too. :P) I also liked the part after his parents are killed and while he's attempting to construct his puppets, he loses himself. The aftermath of that scene, where he decides that whatever that was, he will not feel it again was particularly powerful.

Frenzied artist he might be, but he sticks hard to his decisions and lives unerringly by his own personal authority; because that is control, and that is power, and that is all he's going to be able to create, in that mental space he's landed in. He can remake himself as he sees fit.

They do not come together because they care about Akatsuki's goals. They do not meet because they are interested in their leader's plans. None of them care. None are fooled into thinking the others do.

They come together because they are drawn together, because they are all people who have no place elsewhere in the world.

We talked about this a bit earlier, but I really loved to see it all prettied up and in fic form, rather than casual conversation. Because for Akatsuki, especially the more...prominent? members, this is the way they are living, and this may very well be the only way they can live.

It's beautiful, and tragic, and it helps me remember why I actually do like Akatsuki, despite their general fandom antics. The kind of sentiments up there make Akatsuki quite the unique 'group'--as mentioned in the fic, their disorganization. And it's that distinct lack of fraternity (other shounen villain groups, like, the Shichinintai from Inuyasha, or the Oniwabanshu from Rurouni Kenshin, while not buddybuddy with each other, did have group loyalty, and did think as a group) that makes the Akatsuki worth pursuing in fic, imho.

Back on track slightly--Deidara was awesome in his part. I liked his dialogue; suitably quirky. He almost sounds ESL, because the way he phrases things is so unlike standard dialogue. XD <3<3
