Well so I haven't posted in a while. I was going to do a 2012 recap sort of thing, but now it's almost the end of January and that seems a little silly at this point perhaps. But I just had a really wonderful experience over the weekend and I wanted to post about it to help me remember later, and I feel like any post longer than 40 words will make people impatient and angry over at tumblr. It's also weird how public tumblr is.
But anyway, I met up with my sister in Saugatuck, Michigan this weekend for a little mini-vacation. It was probably a bad idea to do it, because we had to drive through Winter Storm Khan to get there on Friday and Winter Storm Luna to get back on Sunday, and mostly we only had Saturday to do much, but Saturday was great. Saugatuck is a very little tourist town on Lake Michigan, and since it's off-season and the weather was bad, it was super quiet. I love super quiet, that's the best! And there was this gentle snowfall all day, and whenever we stopped inside a shop, we got to talk to the owner for like ten minutes and everyone was so nice.
We went to the public beach area and it was completely covered in snow and these weird balls of lake ice, and there was nobody around anywhere, and the lake was also frozen in these big weird chunks that made it look like the lake was a breathing ice-beast, and then the sunset was amazing, and and and. The time we spent standing on the beach when it was snowing and overcast and the sunset was this little strip of orange between the horizon and this solid dark ceiling of clouds and it was totally silent everywhere was just the best.
Also I have pictures - this one right here and then a few more under a cut.
and just a couple more over here
